I'm curious, does anybody follow the English Premier League (EPL)? If so, who's your team?

Hell yeah! :hurray: :hurray: I love Man. United. But I also really enjoy watching Arsenal. Well, they were not so much fun to watch at the beginning of this season because they're struggling with their new pitch (aka stadium). But Arsenal won 2-0 last night in the CL, with help from Henry, of French national team fame.
I actually follow the Champions League quite a bit more. PSV Eindhoven is by far my favorite football team. They are playing Bordeaux tonight actually in their second group stage game...tied Liverpool (of the EPL) 0-0 in their first game.

Wow, I haven't run into too many PSV Eindhoven fans in the U.S. You must have a little dutch blood in you.

I don't know much about Liverpool, to be honest. I know they have Crouch, Gerrard, Luis Garcia....and a few others I'd recognize if I saw them playing. I love watching all the EPL matches I can though, whoever is playing...I'll head up to a sports bar on Saturday morning's to watch a few games when I can.

I signed up for the Fox Soccer Channel last January and have had the opportunity to watch quite a few games. For only $5 a month, it's well worth its price.

Romario played there...Ronaldo got his start there...DeMarcus Beasley played there (he's on loan this season to Man. City). They have Cocu, Farfan, Kluivert, Alex, etc.
I seem them as the equivalent of the Oakland A's or Pittsburgh Steelers...big-time team in a small-city market, with payrolls far less than other clubs (Ajax is the big dutch club in Holland), but still able to compete year in and year out.

HAHA...I wanted to do that to. But my cable provider thinks that I have basic-basic-basic analog cable...i.e., NBC, FOX, ABC & CBS. If I want to upgrade to digital and get Fox Sports, my cable bill will triple!!! So I don't mind venturing to the bars and getting rowdy and drunk with the Brits at 10 in the morning! ;)

I hear ya, the atmosphere is much better. I have a little English Pub here and will venture over from time-to-time to catch a game. Needless to say, there's usually good crowd when Arsenal, Chelsea (boo!), ManU and Liverpool play.

I assume you're going to watch Liverpool/Galatasaray tonight?? Liverpool needs to step up on the goal-scoring...they haven't scored a CL goal in something like 5 or 6 matches (I read that somewhere recently)!!!
I'm kind of worried about PSV tonight :o ...they have some key injuries right now and I imagine that Bordeaux is going to try to take advantage by being agressive and throwing some extra players at the goal.

Unfortunately, they won't be showing any of the UEFA games tonight. Instead, they are going to re-broadcast New Castle v. Everton and then the Chicago Fire v. LA Galaxy. Perhaps it's time for Dish Network to enter my life.
With regard to Liverpool, they're young and haven't put it together yet. On the positive side of things, they're still tied with everyone in Group C play.

No CL Matches tonight??? What the hell?!?! I woulda been pissed had I actually upgraded to digital cable and bought FSC just to find out that they aren't even showing some of the best matches available!! :bang:
Hopefully we'll have a winner or two in group C after tonight...it could get mighty ugly in a few weeks if all 4 teams have 2 points going into the last match!
My CL Group C predictions, pulled right out of my ass:
Match 2:
Liverpool - 2 Galatasaray - 1
PSV - 1 Bordeaux - 1
Match 3:
PSV - 2 Galatasaray - 0
Liverpool 1 - Bordeaux - 1
PSV/Liverpool go onto knockout stage with 5 points each, Bordeaux gets relegated to UEFA Cup with 3 points, and the Gal's get sent home with 1 point. Eh? :p

Well your Liverpool boys broke out of their scoring slump and went up 3-0...Gals have come back 3-2 though with 25 minutes left.
And PSV JUST took the lead, 1-0 in the 65th minute!!! :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:

Always a soccer fan but never really followed club soccer until last spring, when I spent the semester in London, as Arsenal drove to the Champions League Final. Watched Lehmann stone Riquelme's last minute penalty in a bar full of Arsenal fans. Now that's a moment!

I'll throw everyone a curveball...I'm actually a Tottenham Hotspur fan. Rough start to the EPL season, however. Spurs have a lot of talent but injuries are creating a lot of problems (Beckham's replacement on the English right, Aaron Lennon, being one of the injured players). They did finish 5th last year, as Arsenal pipped them for the last Champions League spot on the final day of the season...the whole team had food poisoning from bad hotel food the night before. Quite a sad story. Anyway, go Spurs!

 I don't have Sky Sports...but maybe they'll have the highlights on UEFA.com.
btw, I noticed my stupid error this morning. I forgot that the CL group stage play 6 matches, home and away. :o NOT like the World Cup. Duh. So my predictions for who moves onto the knockout stage and who gets relagated to the Cup are waaaaaay too early! PSV and Liverpool get to play again, and maybe there will be an actual goal or two!!!

Sky Sports (England) is part of the FSC package. Other than the cricket coverage, it's pretty entertaining.
Liverpool v. PSV, might have to place a little wager on this one Bandy. What do you say?
On a related note, did you Drogba (Chelsea) scored a hat trick against Levski? Amazing stuff from the Cote d'Ivoire striker.

I think a wager could be in the books for that one...how much are you thinking for a friendly bet?? I sure hope that Farfan, Kluivert & Cocu are back from injury by then (2 of the 3 should be at least)...otherwise, Crouch & Garcia are going to rip them a new one!! :(
I did see that Chelsea beating Levski pretty easily, but I didn't actually look at the stats. I was more interested in the Barcelona comeback in the 89th minute...a substitute walks on and saves the day!!

I see that Randy Lerner is about to complete his acquistion of Aston Villa. Surprisingly, many of Villa's faithful support Lerner and feel he has provided the spark the club has needed.
