Here's the map
14 Big Sky teams
11 Southland (counting the two that are technically east of the River)
8 SWAC teams
5 MVFC teams
2 PFL teams
1 OVC team (which is right on the river)
Technically, there is only one Southland school, "technically" east of the Mississippi River, and that would be Southeastern Louisiana. I'm assuming you're referring to Nicholls State as the other, but Thibodaux is west of the river - technically speaking.

I'm sorry but this "University of Faith" has shady written all over it.
http://www.universityoffaithfl.org/index.html
This appears to be largely an online unaccredited religious school with the only on-campus courses being some sort of sports education program. The school president is also the football coach and it looks like the only reason this place exists is so that kids can transfer somewhere else. In short, it looks like a way for the coach to make money off of kids who don't know any better and weren't talented enough to get recruited on their own.
Also, for the record, the words "college" and "university" are not interchangeable; you have to offer grad courses to be considered a university. This shouldn't even be considered a junior college.

Oh I agree with you totally about the sketchiness of these programs. I was just having a laugh about the fact that these "schools" managed to schedule Division I competition and will have their names scroll across the bottom of ESPN this fall.

I was thinking the exact same thing...
Liberty has 12K students on campus and over 90K online....
Hmmm....
Also the university of Faith is accredited by Transworld Accrediting Commission International (http://www.transworldaccrediting.com/)
AND
they offer graduated and doctoral programs...
So....tell me how the word "university" doesn't fit.

to be fair, I'm not sure what the relevance of the founder's education is. More important would be how the school is set up, and who they hire to do the actual teaching. The dumbest person in the world could found a school, and it could be a good school if they hired the right people.
that being said, I have no clue if any of that applies to the schools in question.

And only two teams will make the playoffs even though 4 or 5 of them deserve it since the committee seems to look no further than records when selecting teams.

I read somewhere that Maine had tried to find that 12th game that they were looking for, but that there was no luck with it, so they will be sticking to 11 games. This is unless something changes along the way.

I saw that rumor also.
If SDSU is playing a FCS team the options are limited.
If our spreadsheet is accurate, there are only 4 teams that have 9/20 open and are playing 11 games:
Illinois State
Wagner
UC Davis
McNeese State
Illinois state won't happen - MVFC team with game scheduled on 10/4.
Wagner already opens with 4 road games and does not have their first home game until 10/4, so it probably isn't them.
That leaves UC Davis and McNeese State. I would put my money on UC Davis. Former member of the Great West Football Conference, so there is the past connection with that.
Again, this is assuming that SDSU doesn't play a lower division team.

With the partial credit given to a DII team it's not a bad last resort, just make sure it's NOT an NAIA team as they don't count.

I know exactly how you feel, but am surprised you guys went all the way down to D3. Not being able to find a D1, or even D2, opponent may keep you guys out of the playoffs. Probably only able to spare three loses, and just the games at Mizzoui, NDSU, and UNI could easily put you at three losses.
I'm puzzled as to why the game has a title, I wouldn't want to name against a D3 school. Hope it goes better than your last game against a D3 school.

Hopefully SDSU and UND can sign another home and home that will fill up a spot with a DI team. We have a home and home with USD coming up so SDSU would be a great addition to our schedule. Just don't overlook this team like the UW-Lacrosse game during your transition. Other than that DIII game your schedule looks good.

UNI's AD talked about the issues getting a 12th game again today.
He said that both open days (sept 6 and 27th) are being explored. There are offers out to FCS schools but none of interested in coming to UNI for a guarantee and none are interested in a H/H.
There is still efforting going on but for the first time the idea of a sub D1 game was mentioned publicly.

A good D2 is any day better than bad FCS with no scholarships. Plus they are kinda counted now. Look at Ferris State and Delaware State VS NDSU. Ferris State was clearly the much better team. They did pay for playing NDSU however, didn't get into D2 playoffs.

maybe no 1-A team offered them a game? They did play @ USAFA in '11. TSU usually plays their OVC schedule (minus 1, most seasons; OVC has unbalanced sked to "appease" TSU), and at least three other HBCU's from the MEAC and/or SWAC......

Better odds of making playoffs. Especially, if they don't need the money.

Just because they are a better team doesn't mean it will help UNI.
Look at the history when it comes to getting bids, especially at UNI - just because they "partially count" doesn't mean anything. They aren't a D1. A d1 win, even against Jacksonville, will mean more than beating defending D2 champion Northwest Missouri State
