The town I live in is very nice and close enough to Sioux Falls at hour away. I love it here, but I guess I don’t know much else as I grew up here.
I could never move back to Lyon County Iowa. I might be able to make Sioux Falls work, but at this point I'm city. I left Lyon County and was intimidated by Cedar Falls when I got there. I moved to the Cedar Rapids area and was intimidated by the size of this metro at first. Now I absolutely could never live anywhere smaller than Cedar Falls/Waterloo and at this point the CR metro is growing to be as small as I'm used too. The CR metro is about 15K larger than Sioux Falls metro.
Part of it is I left. Very few people actually leave northwest Iowa, SW Minnesota or SE South Dakota. They all just move to Sioux Falls. I've built my life away from the area. I couldn't go back at this point.
I miss seeing my parents as much, for sure. I just passed my 10 year class reunion. I didn't go back. Didn't think about going back. I bet I've said 15 sentences to people I graduated with in the last decade.
There is something about NW Iowa/SW Minnesota and SE South Dakota that is special that no one that isn't from there will understand. It's just flat prairie and farm land to them.
I just moved on to something else in my life.

No problem with that, do whatever makes you happy. I have lived in Sioux Falls for 5-6 years and there is give and take with a town vs a city. I could go on and on about the pros and cons. I have never really been anywhere in Iowa other than the NW like Sioux City, Ames, and Des Moines. I hope to make a UNI game one of these years.

State fans. Any idea when I will get my tickets for the State/U game? I got my USD tickets over a week ago. Stadium looks great in the pics. I look forward to checking it out. I got front row tickets on the 30 yard line I believe on the east side.
Thanks

Sounds like they are shipping out season tickets late this week/early next week. So I would assume you'll see them shortly after that.

Love it, but to see how far it's really come you have to show it before the Dykehouse Center was built. Anybody sick of SDSU stadium pictures yet? Good, me either xlolx

Those trailers under the smaller side of CAS are where the team used to have their position meetings and watch film. Supposedly Stig got them from a construction company that was going to throw them out or something like that.

That corner though.
Why?
Thumper 76
August 24th, 2016, 01:29 PM
Just a small question/critique. The stadium as a whole looks fantastic but aren't they going to eventually fill in that gap between the student section and main grandstand in the SW corner of the stadium with another section of seats so it's completely enclosed except for the north end? I thought they had just left that open during the construction process but everything looks to be done at this point and it's still open.
I heard Justin Sell talking amongst fans last year and that corner came up. Eventual large group/party area.

I know...still don't like it from the stand point you aren't going to really be able to see the game from that corner from field level with media in front of you.

August 24th, 2016, 01:35 PM
Honestly, I don't think that corner makes a big deal. Might be better to keep the students separated a little from the season ticket holders. It is going to be tough to sell out 19k the way it is. Looks great though.

Good thing they built that new indoor facility...it makes you forget you're in South Dakota by taking away that view..lol
What is in that brick dickhouse building they built around anyway?? Looks like maybe offices?

Could be wrong, but I believe the SW corner of the stadium was left open to give a view of the campus/campanile.

Strongly suspect it was more practical than that. That's where phase 1 and phase 2 meet. It would have made construction more difficult(more expensive) to tie the two together. They probably felt it wasn't worth the price. And leaving it open allows for equipment to be more easily moved onto the field instead of coming around the north side. They're also going to use the area as a plaza for outdoor events.

That Sky is phenomenal (the stadium, too) but seriously, how did I miss that at the game? I supposed because I was on the other side. Yea if you look real close, off the 40 yard line I am there ;) ...
In all honestly, I was blown away last weekend, but I don't think I would buy club seats again. I walked around and I think I prefer the lower seats.

I see the attendance for the first game was 15,171. I would have though SDSU would have at least sold out the first game with it being all new and stuff.
With that said, how was the atmosphere compared to the previous venue? I haven't attended an SDSU game so I'm curious to see what Jacks fans think of the difference.

No idea on atmosphere as I wasn't able to make it down, but I personally think it hurt the attendance having the concert two days before. Anyone who would want to see the new stadium could have done so then and watched the concert instead. Would have rather had the game be the first event in the stadium, but that's just my opinion. I'm hoping the beef bowl will do better this weekend. Hopefully I'll be taking my 4 year old to her first game, but we'll see what happens.
Edit: also, from what I've gathered, getting tickets to people from the ticket office was a complete cluster this year. I wouldn't be surprised if that hurt attendance some.

The atmosphere was pretty good. It's a little hard to judge given the opponent and total lack of suspense in the game, though. The fans discovered quickly that they can stomp their feet on the steel floor of each row and make a whole lot of noise on third downs.

Actually, 15,000 for the Drake game is pretty good, you would have probably had 8,000 at the old joint.

Just looked, it appears that about 2,300 tickets remain for the Beef Bowl this weekend, that puts us at about 17,000 sold so far. Assuming a couple hundred more tickets are sold between now and game time, plus walkup crowd Saturday, 18,000 could happen this weekend.
