I'd be more than glad to offer "assistance" to the bottom 4 ladies when NDSU comes down. I will be more than glad to show them a few new moves and routines

Hold up there partner. Put you're flehmen response away. Unfortunately as any good graduate of Animal Husbandry from a fine Land Grant institution should know when creating the hybrid Beefalo, a Bos taurus x Bison bison, in a well managed herd the male used during breeding is bovine, whereas the female is bison. In addition, any good Beefalo man knows that a full blood Beefalo is 5/8 bovine and 3/8 bison. Seeing as both SDSU and NDSU are fine Land Grant institutions with excellent Animal Science programs, I don't see that happening for ya.

SDSU should have those chutes so they can funnel people to the two porta potties they put out for tailgating.

We did tailgate last year as well as in 2013. The area we set up in both times was great and we had no issues with Porta potties (probably 2 to 4 in our parking lot). The only issue we had was my friend D had his grill destroyed and Bison flag torn off bis vehicle.

Congratulations to the SDSU fans as the stadium looks great.

Shocker, at a rival school you were treated differently. Look when I tailgated in Fargo I had a amazing time and was treated like a king, but I've also had a 5 yr old kid flip me off and get high fived by his grandma who was with him. I'm not saying Bison fans aren't great to tailgate and party with, but to pretend they're all saints is a bit much.

Except for the incident with the Fargo police where Ursus and I were shot at Rooters because we were white and wearing Griz gear. I only took one shot because the Fargo police are bad shots, Ursus on the other hand took 3 or 4 and ended up with a baton in his backside later on that night at the hotel. (They found him more than good looking) Its not that big of a deal for him we just walked it off and we were back at it the next day.

Its not that big of a deal for him we just walked it off and we were back at it the next day.

It happens everywhere and people need to quit being pussies about it.

There are 12 people in the student section that chant that. I must hang around the classier sections of the tailgating lot because I have never seen an opposing fan treated badly, not once since I moved back here in 2007.

Actually I think it's more of the old farts that are holding on to the Sioux ****. Either way I haven't noticed any bad behavior in the tailgate lot either, but if we put on SDSU's shoes and had lost (can't remember the number) of games they have in a row to us, I could see a few of our fans being a little bitter.

Ok, I am done with this, there were NUMEROUS reports of vehicle vandalism last year at Brookings, it wasn't just one off situation. I have been to several games there and last year was completely different, don't know why but it was. I usually tailgate with the same guys when I go down there (SDSU guys) and it was always great, but not last year. I spent some time over where the Bison crowd was at and people would walk into the tents, uninvited and start mouthing off, I have never seen that happen before. Dropping f bomb's loud as hell, kids all over the place, it was a joke.

It's tough to judge domes vs. stadiums, but I (highly biased) still think the Fargodome takes the cake. Throw the domes out though, and SDSU has the nicest stadium. With that being said Illinois St, Southern Ill, and Missouri St have also recently updated their homes and all three look like really nice facilities. I'm not sure what YSU is doing for a remodel, but they also have a decent place and have the largest capacity. Then we have USD, ISUb, and WIU. -->xthumbsdownx

Without actually setting foot in SDSU's stadium I'll say that from the pics is looks to be the top in the conference this season.

It is hard to rank a dome vs. a stadium for me cuz I just can't give a dome that sort of break to say it is equal.

I struggle with it in general because it really depends on what priority you put on a few characteristics. For example...Wa-Griz is a top facility, but if you take JUST the actual stadium and place it in Youngstown, OH (pick any location really), you would lose alot of the appeal. The actual facility itself with the concourse/additions isn't much other than capacity. Its the people and scenery....same could be said of the chopped up tailgating. SDSU's stadium (in a vacuum) is going to be a nicer building than a majority of the FCS....can they add the atmosphere to make it the best overall experience (sorry....can't add mountains. :D )? That is the real TBD.

Is this the old Times Square board or the new one that they are putting in now?
For Montana?

I pulled the dimensions straight out of a May 24th article found here http://www.gogriz.com/news/2016/5/24/football-new-griz-vision-set-for-washington-grizzly-stadium.aspx

The video display system will be completed for the 2016 football season. It will feature a main video screen that measures 32 feet high by 55 feet wide, approximately two times the size of the old display. Featuring live video, team branding and statistics, the video screen will encompass the entire old structure, while a new sound system and speakers will be added to either side of the new display.

I don't count the other two, as the article states those are strictly for advertising.

The chopped up tailgating that circles the stadium? I see that as a plus in that you have a stream of beverage surrounding greatness.

You are used to a rock concert parking lot tailgate so I understand the problem. If it doesn't look like a Walmart parking lot on the 1st of the month you don't recognize it. xlolx

Reminds me of MSU fans claiming their cramped mud pit is somehow better because it's all in one place.

I have doubts about the atmosphere getting to the level where it's number one, but I can see it getting into the top 5 for sure.

To each their own man.....we tailgate longer, there's flat out more of it, and a lot of people/publications agree with me considering the pub it has gotten.... Also, what's wrong with a rock concert atmosphere? :D

Yeah I was wondering where the hell everyone was before the game? Walked around for a couple of hours and the tailgating was pretty sparse which really surprised me. After it got going it was pretty good. The whole mountain thing and the crowd at the game was pretty cool. Also having half the stadium empty out to go tailgate was something I didnt expect either. But by the 4th Q most were back in there seats.

Yeah. I have no problem with the exit/re-entry rule with tailgating. It sucks that it takes until late 3rd/4th quarter for it to fill back in, but again, to each their own. I went outside during halftime for just a little bit...tried to get back in early enough to use the pisser, but wasn't fast enough and missed at least the first drive of the 2nd half I think.

I don't see the exit/re-entry working well for the Fargodome (it could....but I would pass). That being said, there are tons of people that just tailgate and don't go or can't get into the game. I wouldn't kick people out of the lot and make it an all day event with some sort of "gameday" center with the game on a screen. That, or plenty of people have functioning rigs that could be used to watch as well (obviously if the owner(s) are also outside).

That has much to do with the limited parking in a filled in with neighborhoods area around a University. A ton of people going to the games come in on of 40 or 50 busloads (guessing it as least that) from all the bars around town. So the tailgating starts earlier it is primarily at the bars up until the buses start taking off from the bars. Honestly, people are only tailgating starting about 10a for a 1p game start at the stadium and the bus peopls start being unloaded around that 10:30 mark.

You didn't see any available space for parking did you? It would be tough to have everyone going to the game drive there unlike the NDSU set up has.

NDSU has a great tailgate in case you thought I didn't appreciate the setting in giving 02 some of his crap back.

That is sort of the problem (I don't think it is) for UM. So many Motor homes line University Dr. and almost all have TV going with the Griz game on it. I know our tailgate always does so I do take a few sips while watching things on the screen quite often. I also have a bathroom so as not to wait with the unwashed masses while I stroll easily (no crowd if a little late) to my seast for the 2nd 1/2 (of the 3rd qtr.) and enjoy. xlolx

You guys have the same problem Iowa has. The south end of the stadium is in a residential neighborhood and there are parking lots all over the place that you need a map to find. Plus house parties all over the place. So I understand the Montana scenario. You just gotta adapt and not let it bother you. The bar set up with the buses is a great deal as many cities with pro teams do that. They fill the bars then jump on the bus to the game. Sweet set up.

This is not a complaint, just a "huh, that's interesting" kind of comment.

The stadium looks a little funny from the air because of the seats. For 90% of the stadium, only the backrests are blue. So you can't see them from the air. The only seats that look blue from the air are the handful of full seats. So horizontally, the stands look completely blue, but vertically they look almost completely grey with just a small chunk of blue.

Kind of an interesting optical illusion of sorts.

Just a small question/critique. The stadium as a whole looks fantastic but aren't they going to eventually fill in that gap between the student section and main grandstand in the SW corner of the stadium with another section of seats so it's completely enclosed except for the north end? I thought they had just left that open during the construction process but everything looks to be done at this point and it's still open.

No, that won't be filled in.

The old beat writer had this in a blog shortly after plans were finalized I believe

The bowled-in nature of the southwest corner appears more obvious. The southeast corner will have some space between seating sections, and will be home to the Alumni Club Lounge. That space features a view of campus.

The state isn't paying for it.

Neither did the state of NH. However, that still didn't keep the Governor, Senate President and Speaker of the State Legislature from all initially opposing a new stadium project.

No idea on the funding of the UNH project, but I believe that SDSU isn't using any student fees to find the stadium either.

As to the stadium itself, I think Coach Stig is right when he says it will bring a different mindset to the state of South Dakota itself. I don't know if there is anything in the state that you can compare it to besides maybe the Premier Center. Having driven by it and gotten up close, it truely has a big time feel that nothing matches in the state. I really think if the team has a good year SDSU starts to dominate the Sioux Falls market.

How much impact does SDSU have on the Rapid City area? Like North Dakota, the state schools are on the far eastern edge of the state which means they're far removed from the western part of the state.

I would say more than USeD but it's a looooong distance. Every couple years the team has a scrimmage there and a youth camp. It's a long drive out there. I've had a lot of people from where i grew up ask how close it was to Mt. Rushmore and be deterred by a trip to visit both. It's like a 6 hr drive.

I've driven across North Dakota and South Dakota so that's why I wondered how much impact there was. At least North Dakota has Bismarck as a central hub for the state to help bridge the gap. SD really doesn't have that. Pierre is a bit far removed from the interstate and Chamberlain, while cool as hell, is nothing more than a pass through town.

Hey don't knock Pierre! But seriously, to get here you have to be trying to get here (I live and grew up in Pierre), because as you said, the interstate is 30 miles away which still sucks. I've had this conversation with people before, if Pierre had the interstate going through it, it could be similar to Bismarck.

I have an aunt who has lived in Lake Andes, SD for 30-40 years. She has taught HS and college in Lake Andes, Marty, Wagner, Pickstown in the Yankton Res as well as spent time teach college courses in McLaughlin in the Standing Rock res in north central SD. Talk about ****ty places to try to get too. I spent much time around the Pickstown dam growing up. Her husband was a massive outdoorsman and "famous" in the area. Took me out on the river a few times. Always told me "One day, you and are are going to kayak Fort Randall (the dam in Pickstown)"

Took a tour of that place as a kid. Made me want to do that for a career. Then my freshman science teacher flat out told me in front of the entire class "That's not realistic for you, pick something else". Killed my enjoyment of science and nature.

Oh....also...she's FULL of white guilt.

But you gotta admit that Pierre isnt what you think of when you think of a city thats the state capital. Theres really not much there even though I love Dakota Mart. Great fishing. Best I can describe it is its a town and not a city. Which theres nothing wrong with that.

And yes you have to have a burning desire to go there because it is in the middle of no where.

Does SDSU have a presence in Southwest Minnesota in a similar manner NDSU draws from the North Central part of the state?

One awesome place in the middle of South Dakota is Sutton Bay Golf Club. It's basically the private version of the Links of North Dakota.

One thing I'm a little confused on, since they dont have a track around the field...which is great...why not pull the seats up closer to the field? Similar to Wa-Griz?

Some people like to see the entire field. Now imagine the great view of the closer end zone when there are people sitting in front of you.

I'm assuming there's some solid reasoning for it, sight lines or something like that. I wish they would have made the sidelines closer and the stands more vertical (at least from pictures anyways) to keep the noise in more, but I'm sure that was for helping the old folks get to their seats easier. In the end I'm certainly not going to bitch about anything, those are fairly minor things considering the difference from before and after.

I suspect it might also have had a bit to do with the way the construction was staggered. The suite/press box tower had to start without tearing down the old stands. That put a limit on the distance from the field to the top row. And the east side couldn't be moved closer since the field had to remain in use in between the construction phases.

WGS and the FD both have very steep stands(comparatively) because of space constraints during construction. WGS was built in a man-made bowl, and the FD was scrunched into a relatively small footprint for logistic and cost reasons. SDSU's stadium suffered from the opposite constraints.

Just a guess.

That makes a lot of sense. Part of a great stadium is being a loud stadium IMO, and set up can help a lot with that. That being said, seeing the videos from practice in there and how the sound echoes, I'm guessing it'll still be plenty loud.

I grew up in Douglas County, about 30 miles from the Andes/Wagner area. Wagner isn't that bad, Lake Andes is a dump. We played them in basketball, ran track at their meet and played them in baseball. I had some friends who grew up in town. They had some stories, just a crappy place to live. I never really understood how Wagner always had a new school with awesome facilities paid for by the Federal Government while Lake Andes just chugged along with the same crappy school and athletic facilities they had dating back to the 50s. I give your aunt credit, that could not have been an easy place to teach.

As for Ft Randall. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to stand at western edge and watch the Paddle Fish along the wall. Freaking huge! Loved that area. Learned to water ski on the Missouri, Peace Creek area and we used to tube in the winter above the old Fort. Fun times.

Dump is a nice way to describe Lake Andes. My uncle was a long time military guy so when he died my aunt go all kinds of money. Renovated the house and it's by far the nicest place in town....but to be fair all that takes is a house with no holes in the roof or walls and the presence of a door. She has been a super hippy liberal who whole life and instantly fell into the native culture. I've told the story about her getting kicked out of UNI for starting the presidents lawn on fire in the late 60s in protest of the Vietnam War. She loves it out there. She's "one of them" at this point. One of the most respected teachers in the area. One of the most respected people in the area. Chances are your friends had my aunt as a teacher if they went to Lake Andes.

Outside of the town that is a gorgeous area of the country though. The rolling prairie land is...it's mesmerizing to look at. Just gorgeous.

Absolutely correct about the paddle fish. My uncle always said on the north side of Ft Randall, at the bottom of the reservoir it was just filled with horse sized cat fish that would eat a person in one bite. My uncle was known to have a strong ability to tell stories if you can't tell. I wouldn't doubt there were some just monster sized cat fish over there though. He was well known in the area. Was featured in this article as being a duck decoy maker - http://www.sdstate.edu/sites/default/files/nrm/outreach/upload/The-History-of-Decoys-and-Carvers-in-South-Dakota.pdf. I remember when he died and cleaning out the basement of all of his guns, calls, decoys, lure, rods, hooks, etc... I couldn't believe it.

I am from Hutchinson County (no reservations in the Hutch) which is about 45 minutes away from Lake Andes and you are pretty spot on with your assessments. I have heard stories of divers in the Missouri that they have seen catfish bigger than they were, so I don’t think he was exaggerating that story too much.

I think growing up here is key. I love being able to drive less than 10 minutes and be in the middle of nowhere. For many the town of about @18,000 I live in would be considered too small. In S.D. it is one of the biggest in the state. I like knowing that I can go to just about any town in the state and know someone or at least know someone who knows someone...
