MIAMI -- Joe Girardi has a chance to win National League Manager of the Year, but it seems he has no chance to return to the Florida Marlins next season.

According to a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Girardi will be out as Marlins manager after just one season.

MIAMI (AP) -- Florida Marlins manager Joe Girardi was fired Tuesday, a move that had been expected after his rift with owner Jeffrey Loria boiled over in an on-field confrontation two months ago.

Girardi lost his job even though he's considered a strong candidate for NL manager of the year. The Marlins had baseball's youngest team and lowest payroll at $15 million, but Girardi led them to a 78-84 record, and they were in contention for a playoff berth until a late-September fade.

I wish Colorado would hire him but for whatever reason Clint Hurdle can never be fired, he is ordained by God to always be the Rockies manager no matter how terrible they are year after year.

If Cubs management is smart, and I think I speak for every Cubs fan when I say that they are not, it would take about five seconds. However, my poor, poor Cubbies will end up with some other idiot that no one has ever heard of.

It also frees him up for the Phillies to maybe snag him.

And evidently, he wants to do that in Miami.

That seems to be the M.O. of the Marlins. Sure, they have a couple of World Series championships, but every other year that they have been in existence, they have sucked out loud after selling off all of their good players. They finally have young playuers who are responding to their manager, and he fires the manager.

Come to Chicago, Joe. We need you.

They just hired a coach from the Braves, guy that barely lost out to Girardi last year, though his name has escaped me on my way from ESPN.com to here

Joe Girardi, considered a leading candidate for the Chicago Cubs' managing job, interviewed for the position on Monday.

The Florida Marlins fired Girardi last week. He guided them to a 78-84 record and kept them in contention for a playoff spot until late September despite having the majors' youngest team and lowest payroll.
