Western Illinois University (2-0 0-0) @ University of Minnesota-TC (2-0) Unless WIU is actually top 15 material they have no chance against Minnesota.

Youngstown State University (2-0 0-0) @ Michigan State University (2-0) Youngstown State probably isn't a world-beater this season, but MSU looks like they SUCK. FCS teams have also beaten both of the teams they have played and beat, unimpressively I might add.

Charelston (WV) [Sub DI] @ Southern Illinois University (0-2 0-0) SIU easily picks up their first win.

Quincy [Sub DI] @ Indiana State University (0-2 0-0) Yeah, not even ISU-b this year could screw this one up.

Missouri State (0-2 0-0) @ Murray State (1-1) Missouri State picks up their first win.

Illinois State University (0-1 0-0) @ Eastern Illinois University (2-0) SIU couldn't get it done, can ISU-r? They do not have their starting center for the first half of the game.

Southeastern Louisiana (1-1) @ South Dakota State University (2-0 0-0) This should be SDSU's best team to date, and could be a close game.

Western Illinois University (2-0 0-0) @ University of Minnesota-TC (2-0) The goofs should be able to handle this one.

Youngstown State University (2-0 0-0) @ Michigan State University (2-0) This one will be interesting and I'd love to see YSU get the upset but just don't see that happening.

Charelston (WV) [Sub DI] @ Southern Illinois University (0-2 0-0) If Lennon wants to keep a job he better win this game.

Quincy [Sub DI] @ Indiana State University (0-2 0-0) Might be just what the doctor ordered for ISU

Missouri State (0-2 0-0) @ Murray State (1-1) Missouri State has problems and Murray State is a decent squad.

Illinois State University (0-1 0-0) @ Eastern Illinois University (2-0) Should be a hell of a game.

Southeastern Louisiana (1-1) @ South Dakota State University (2-0 0-0) SELA was 5-6 last year but they beat McNeese last year. SDSU better play better defensively this week or this could be an upset special.

Minnesota 38 WIU 14: The Leathernecks, while improved, are no match for the Gophers

MSU 45 Youngston State 17: The Spartans easily take care of business against the Penguins...

SIU 45 Charleston 6: The Sulukis (perhaps Villanova) might be the best 0-2 team in FCS....

ISU 48 Quincy 10: The Sycamores take their frustration out on an over matched foe...

EIU 31 ISU 27: The Panthers have really challenged themselves to start the year. It pays off against a maybe slightly overrated Redbird team....

Murray State 27 Missouri State 24: I'll take the OVC team to win a close one...

SDSU 40 SELA 27: I thought UND would trip up the 'Rabbits...I'm not picking against them two weeks in a row....

I bet after having television behemoths UNLV and New Mexico St on their schedule for their first two games the Big Ten Gophers, their fan base, and their conference just had their interest levels drop from a frenzied tizzy to an utter disgust at the fact that they have to play this JV team from Macomb, Illinois.

I'm unsure whether gopher fans actually watch football on tv, aside from the Vikings I mean.

Not sure what he was trying to prove when he made those comments but he really made himself look bad given who they have played in the first two games. Then again if they'd of played UNI or NDSU or another top caliber team from the FCS they could easily have been 1-1 going into this 3 game. Either way they should have no troubles with Western Illinois. If they do Kill will be on the hot seat for sure.

From week 2 thread:

They say teams improve the most from week 1 to week 2.

Iowa lost to Northern Illinois, at home and is going to be looking to take some anger out on Missouri St. Absolutely likewise with Purdue, they have a new coach who is going to demand better performance from them than what they gave in a very bad loss at Cincinnati.

I'd like to think there's no way WIU, Youngstown, NDSU and Northern Iowa could lose. Shouldn't happen.

EIU at SIU is the best game of the bunch. EIU beat an FBS team and SIU had a chance to beat Illinois. I'll go with SIU being at home.

SDSU at UND might be a trap game for the Jacks. I'll go with SDSU, but this game is going to be used as a measuring stick of MVFC vs. Big Sky for the whole year. UND can throw the ball. Won't be surprised if they win at home.

USD will give Kansas a game. Going with the upset shocker. USD squeaks it out.

Correct picks: Iowa over MSU, Purdue over IN St, YSU, NDSU, WIU, UNI over bad teams, SDSU over UND
Incorrect picks: SIU over EIU, USD over Kansas
Week record: 8-2
Season record: 16-4

WIU is probably a pretty decent, mid-range MVFC team this year. That's not good enough, normally to beat a B1G. Especially a Minnesota team that looks like it has a chance for a bowl game this year. I'll take Minny.

Haven't seen Mich St at all this year. Just going from the scores they don't seem terribly impressive. I'll go with YSU in the upset.

SIU and IN St win against lower teams.

I'm going to give MO St the benefit of the doubt against an OVC school.

IL St gets their turn at EIU. I've been impressed with EIU, so I'm going to stick with them over rival IL St.

Finally, SDSU should not have a problem with SELA at home. Give me the Jacks.

Western Illinois University (2-0 0-0) @ University of Minnesota-TC (2-0) - Gophers should win this one 35-14.

#18 Youngstown State University (2-0 0-0) @ Michigan State University (2-0) - When I hear that MSU may use all 4 of their quarterbacks against YSU, I see an offense with no leader and no identity. The 3 that have played thus far do not scare me, but Damian Terry, an incoming freshmen QB from Erie, is a stud. He destroyed my high school last year 47-7, and my alma mater is no slouch winning 4 state titles from 2000-2010. If he plays, I like Sparty. If the other 3 play, I like YSU 17-14. I think we can easily stop the run, but will we be able to stop the pass? That will be the question!

Charleston (WV) [Sub DI] @ #33 Southern Illinois University (0-2 0-0) - Salukis get off the snide with a rout of Charleston, WV.

Quincy [Sub DI] @ Indiana State University (0-2 0-0) - Sycamores by 35.

Missouri State (0-2 0-0) @ Murray State (1-1) - Like the former school of YSU President Randy Dunn in this one. Should be competitive, but I will take the Racers 28-17.

#19 Illinois State University (0-1 0-0) @ #9 Eastern Illinois University (2-0) - This is a big game for the Redbirds. A win gives them some comfort space for the conference run. A loss decreases their margin for error down the stretch. EIU by 7.

#39 Southeastern Louisiana (1-1) @ #7 South Dakota State University (2-0 0-0) - Jackrabbits by 17.

Minnesota -- Goofs win one that will be less than 2 scores apart. WIU close, but no cigar. 28-17

YSU -- Spartans suck on O. YSU hid most of their O and some D in first 2 games. Both teams have good Ds and expect a close score game. Lets try 24-21.

SIU-- by more than 30

Indiana St. -- win by at least 28 or more.

Murray St. -- home game edge to Racers 28-24.

EIU -- in state bragging rights game. Ill. St. goes down swinging 31-21

SDS-- Jacks should win a game at home that may be close. 35-31

Murray State 47 Missouri State 34- Track meet. Murray State scores a lil more
SIU 37 Charleston 7- No comment
ISU-B 44 Quincy 6- WIU killed Quincy
ISU-R 37 EIU 31- EIU barely got by SIU
SDSU 31 SELA 27- intriguing game. SELA has a very good offense. SDSU survives a scare

Western Illinois University (2-0 0-0) @ University of Minnesota-TC (2-0) Gophs need the W. IF WIU wins, this 'Necks team may not be the cellar dweller most seem to be projecting them to be.

After two tough games with narrow losses, ISU(b) whops some marshmellow.

Missouri State (0-2 0-0) @ Murray State (1-1) Da Bears need this W. Don't get it? Cellar dweller of MVFC.

#19 Illinois State University (0-1 0-0) @ #9 Eastern Illinois University (2-0) Both teams are offensive. In a shoot-out, I'll go with the one who's demonstrated that they can get the W. Plus it's a home game for the Panthers.

#39 Southeastern Louisiana (1-1) @ #7 South Dakota State University (2-0 0-0) Rabbits, at home against a much improved Lions team. Last year Jacks absolutely stopped the Lions offense. That defensive intensity needs to come through this week after the 2nd half fiasco at UND. Don't think that the Southland team's defense is ready to stop the Jacks "fat guys", which will spring Zenner for another 200+ yd day. Look for Sumner to have another field day passing as Lions focus on Zenner.

As I posted on another thread, this is from a YSU fan on the YSU message Board regarding the game. I think he is spot on:

"Professional bookmakers, who have no loyalty whatsoever beyond their bank accounts, think that Michigan State will win by 26.5 points. And yet FCS fans, ours and others, are actually picking us to win this game. This is getting really crazy. NDSU has a great defense. Can we all agree on that? Well, Michigan State has a better defense....much better. This will be a gigantic challenge. What pains me is that if Michigan State drubs us, a distinct possibility, uninformed FCS fans will now make us an object of ridicule. No such stigma gets attached to James Madison, who could not even defeat a bad Akron team."

I think that it is not going to be that easy. Some have the Spartan picked to win the B1G

9-0 last week! 18-1 on the year.

Western Illinois @ Minnesota - As much as I'd love to see the Necks win this one I can't pick them against the Goophers.
Youngstown St @ Michigan St - This is mostly just a hopeful pick cuz I want to see a team from the mighty B1G get beat by a "JV team".
Charleston (WV) @ Southern Illinois - The Salukis take out some frustration after a couple near misses to start their season.
Quincy @ Indiana St - The Trees get healthy and pick up their first W of the year.
Missouri St @ Murray St - Not too sure who to pick in this game and I've learned to pick against the Bears when that's the case.
Illinois St @ Eastern Illinois - I think the Redbirds are still trying to find themselves and drop another MVC/OVC matchup.
Southeastern Louisiana @ South Dakota St - I'm not buying into the SELA hype yet, I think SDSU controls this one from the start.

Terry is the #2 this week.. You called it :)

Dantonio has named sophomore Cook as the starting quarterback with true freshman Terry slated in at #2

http://statenews.com/article/2013/09/cook-named-starter-terry-slated-as-backup-against-youngstown-state

Head football coach Mark Dantonio announced at his press conference today that sophomore Connor Cook will enter practice this week as the starting quarterback, while true freshman Damion Terry will prepare as the backup for MSU’s week three matchup against Youngstown State.

Cook got the first start of his career last week against South Florida, and finished six-for-11 through the air with 32 yards while splitting time with redshirt freshman Tyler O’Connor and senior Andrew Maxwell. Terry was withheld against the Bulls with a thumb injury and illness.

Dantonio said Terry will begin the week as the No. 2 man and he will evaluate whether the true freshman can handle the responsibilities throughout the week of practice. He said Tuesday he doesn’t want to burn Terry’s redshirt just to see him play one game, and that Terry won’t play if he’s unprepared.

Terry arrived this summer as a heralded four-star dual-threat quarterback prospect after a decorated senior season at Erie Cathedral Prep in Erie, Pa. Chants of “We want Terry,” have emerged from the student section in two home games so far this season.

In MSU’s second closed scrimmage of fall camp, Terry threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 40 more against what was said to be primarily first-team defenders. according to a release from the athletics department

Everyone keeps track of their own. I don't hold hands like other conferences :p. Perhaps at the end of the year I will tally them and give something away.

Heh, it's kind of entertaining that YSU has a better shot against Michigan State than WIU has against Minnesota.

That would have been just a bizarre thing to say in 2010. WIU (playoff winner) was good, YSU (3-8) was horrible, MSU (11-2) was amazing, Minnesota (3-9) was horrible.

Western Illinois University (2-0 0-0) @ University of Minnesota-TC (2-0) WIU is not NDSU Gophers on this game.

#18 Youngstown State University (2-0 0-0) @ Michigan State University (2-0) Too much depth for the Guins to pull it off.

Charelston (WV) [Sub DI] @ #33 Southern Illinois University (0-2 0-0) SIU has had a rough start, but not that rough.

Quincy [Sub DI] @ Indiana State University (0-2 0-0) After two bruising games ISU should win this one easily.

Missouri State (0-2 0-0) @ Murray State (1-1) Going with the underdog on this one.

#19 Illinois State University (0-1 0-0) @ #9 Eastern Illinois University (2-0) EIU favored and at home. Would like to say I am wrong, but I am going with the odds on this one.

#39 Southeastern Louisiana (1-1) @ #7 South Dakota State University (2-0 0-0)

I'm not really sold on either Minny or Michigan State as a top half B1G team, heck top half of their division. But it's early yet.

Went 8-1 on last week's pick 'em, so onto MVFC week #3:

Gophers
Spartans
Dawgs
Trees
Bears....think MSU guts out a roadie
Birds...ISU plays EIU for the 102nd time and REALLY needs this one with Valley play coming up. Should be a complete shootout.
Jacks

MVFC is standing tall this season, so maybe a Guins upset over The MSU Spartans is in the cards. Not likely, but who knows? Alright, ROCK IT MVFC~~xbeerchugxxbeerchugxxbeerchugx

Ah, the good old days...when we didn't suck.

Looks like a lot of places are giving the two games about the same odds. Minnesota and Michigan State each favored by 24 points over us and Youngstown State: http://espn.go.com/college-football/lines
I'd love to have the win, but at this point, I think it'd be acceptable if we beat the spread on this one.

How in the hell does anyone think ysu will pull an upset of msu? Has anyone seen their defense? I have watched both of their games. Impossible task I say. Wish I was wrong, but I don't see a way. In addition, they are starting their best qb, and they didn't start him before because he is an underclassmen (which goes against Dantonio's rules). He is starting the best qb because his underclassmen are not getting the job done. This will be a different msu team imop. ysu will not move the ball on that defense. The defense is terrific.

I love to see the win, but I think MSU is too good of a team. They just haven't played well. THis is not an Illinois, Purdue, Iowa type of team. This is an upper tier B1G team that focuses on Defense. Defense wins games and championships for a reason. The best defensive teams are usually the national title contenders. Just because MSU struggled the first 2 games doesn't mean that they will struggle on Saturday. I think YSU may be able to hold them down early if they don't make mistakes, but the defense will make some spectaular play and turn the game.

I think most people saw Sparty struggle against South Florida. The same South Florida team that McNeese beat by like 30 some points. However, YSU has only played two Pioneer league teams so I have my doubts about how good they really are. I think they can keep it close since Sparty has no offense, but ultimately will lose because of the defense. Good luck though!

Michigan State fans are the ones that are worried. See below at http://www.freep.com/article/20130913/SPORTS07/309130076/michigan-state-football-akron-youngstown-state-predictions:

Also read this article out this morning stating YSU has the edge on offense and special teams:
http://www.mlive.com/spartans/index.ssf/2013/09/matchup_youngstown_state_a_mor.html

IF YSU can hold onto the football, they have a chance. That is their best shot.
