I'll be out of town on Saturady, unable to listen and chat on the game, but I wanted to set up a thread for the big gameday in the NEC.

CCSU, Albany Meet In Early Season Clash
Two weeks ago, No. 23 ranked Central Connecticut State (3-0, 0-0 NEC) toppled nationally ranked Georgia Southern. Last week, Albany (2-1, 0-0 NEC) matched the Blue Devils, beating perennial I-AA power Delaware. This Saturday, the Blue Devils and Great Danes will meet in an early-season Northeast Conference battle as Albany hosts CCSU at University Field. The Blue Devils topped the Danes in 2004 and 2005. In the end, Saturday's clash may be determined on the ground. CCSU ranks fifth in I-AA in rushing (263.0 ypg), while Albany stands 10th nationally in rushing defense (81.7 ypg).

Should be a great game - and an important game nationally for I-AA football (when was the last time that was said about a NEC game??)

I was thinking the same as dbackjon... who would have thought an NEC game would get this much attention? This is one of the best of the weekend... another reason why I don't like picking I-AA games of the week in their present format... we don't know what games will be big...

23. Central Connecticut State (3-0) at Albany (2-1)
Where: University Field, Albany, NY.
When: 4:00 p.m.
Series: Albany leads 7-5.
Notes: For the first time in school history, Central Connecticut is nationally ranked, coming off a 29-26 win over Southern Connecticut last week. The national ranking is the first ever for the football team, and the first time a Northeast Conference team has ever cracked the top-25. The Blue Devils rank fifth nationally in rushing yardage per game (263.0) and senior running back Justise Hairston ranks sixth nationally at 139.7 yards per game. His 241 yards in the win over Southern is the top single game rushing performance in I-AA this season. CCSU has not started a season 4-0 since the beginning of the 1970 season. Sophomore quarterback Aubrey Norris will not dress for this game. The Albany Great Danes beat a top-25 team at the Division I-AA level for the second time in last Saturday's 17-10 upset of No. 11 Delaware. UAlbany played before the largest crowd in the program's history as 22,016 were in attendance at Delaware. UAlbany has four of five starters back on the offensive line. Jacob Anderson was a first-team All-NEC selection, while Sam Pagano earned second-team honors. The Great Danes have a nice one-two punch at tailback with Marcus Allen and Omar Johnson. Allen, who transferred from Valley Forge Military College in Pennsylvania, rushed 13 times for 68 yards against Delaware, plus caught four passes for 39 more. FB Dan Beigel ran for a careerbest 71 yards on five carries vs. Delaware. Albany emphasizes the linebacker positions. ILB Colin Disch made 15 tackles against Delaware, the third highest total in his collegiate career. Disch is second among the NCAA leaders at 14.3 tackles per game. OLB Trevor DuPont had six tackles, one off his career-best, with one sack last Saturday. All-Conference standouts Andre Coleman (6-4, 290) and Michael Dungey (6-2, 275) are the top players on a veteran defensive line. Ryan Chrobak is in his fourth year as a starter at cornerback.
