BROOKINGS South Dakota State running back Zach Zenner is focused on wins rather than yards in the upcoming season.Its just that individual statistical greatness has become part of the story Zenner was that good last season as a sophomore, rushing for 2,044 yards in his first go as a starter. That was the most by an FCS player in 10 years and the ninth-largest total ever in the subdivision.
What does he do for an encore? Chase Choo-Choo Charlie. That was the nickname tagged to former Sacramento State running back Charles Roberts, the only other FCS player to hit the 2,000-yard mark as a sophomore and the only FCS player to reach the milestone twice (1998 and 99).
The inadvertent pursuit of history resumes Saturday with the No. 6-ranked Jackrabbits host to Butler at 6 p.m. . . . (read more)
