The always popular (and good for my post count) PL wrapup, week three

The Good:

Colgate 28, Dartmouth 7 - Jordan Scott runs for 169 yards, 3 TDs, Saraceno goes 14-16 for 175 yards as Raiders offense rolls

Bucknell 20, Cornell 5 - big first quarter lifts Bison to second win, congrats !! Lair throws 7 times, Bucknell runs 54 times . . Cornell scores 3 points on 436 yards of offense . . and you have to love the intentional safety when you're up 17 xlolx

The Bad:

Harvard 31, Holy Cross 14 - Clifton Dawson does what Clifton Dawson does (170 yards, 3 TDs) . . however, Crimson are down to their third QB after Chris Pizzotti (10-13, 126 yds) left with knee injury, and O'Hagan's already suspended

Penn 21, Lafayette 11 - Leopards move the ball (417 yards), the ball hits Quaker special teams players (two blocked FGs) . . Maurer throws for career-high 286 yds, but similar to Colgate last year, it comes in a for-naught final drive . . Joe Sandberg looked like the second-best tailback in the Ivy League (166 yards, 2 TDs)

Brown 34, Georgetown 21 - Hartigan-less Bears break out to 34-7 lead before two late scores, Hoyas offense does score a first quarter TD for the first time in a year-plus, however.

The Ugly:

Columbia 37, Fordham 7 - with Albany's wins at Lehigh and Delaware, what happened last week? what happened this week? Norrie Wilson wins head coaching debut, good job Lions

Princeton 14, Lehigh 10 - Mountain Hawks are up 10-0, then . . wow, this isn't (supposed to be) a great Tiger team either, guess the Leopards will find out next week. 2-1 Elon 28, Presbyterian 0.

Georgetown's loss to Brown wasn't all that bad--it's a learning process and when you are undersized and underfunded, you have to hope for a few breaks along the way.

The Hoyas have no running game and its longstanding inability to recruit impact backs (especially locally) is evident again this year. After three games, Georgetown's leading rusher has 59 yards.

sorry, there really wasn't a place to put it . . maybe the "expected" . . I don't want to pile on Georgetown, god knows you're trying. Brown is an awful good football team.

Anyone who's followed Saraceno's career has to be happy with this game. He led the team, knew his role, and made smart, timely passes to offset Scott.

And Colgate did this w/o it's starting center Sulvoski. Dartmouth is Dartmouth of course, so no one is thumping their chests in Hamilton. But that's just the kind of game that we needed.

I'll be of course interested to see how we do against Monmouth next week and G'Town after that, but the Princeton game in 3 weeks could be worth watching.

Not chest-thumping, but certainly feeling more confident in the offense after they were able to turn it up during the second half. The defense is coming along well, and getting a team like Dartmouth is slightly better than having to match up with Penn or Harvard. Given the performance of the NEC so far this season, Monmouth looks like it could be a very interesting battle, certainly a step up from the Big Green. Hopefully the defense keeps working hard together and the offense continues to improve.

What are Saraceno's stats? Minus one INT and some poor looks, Maurer is having a killer season so far..

Maurer should have no INTs.. but that's what bad decisions will do.. alreay in the lead for all-PL! :D

October 28 decides it all..

Yeah, it's amazing how we question the decision making of a QB who has six picks in his last 300 throws, or something like that. Ideally he'd have none, but I guess that's football. Sure beats the hell out of 21 picks in that stretch for Saraceno though.

And if not for a bobbled catch-attempt by our TE, Saraceno would only have one pick himself. Coulda woulda shoulda...

Not to mention Maurer's numbers came in 3 games against Penn, Sacred Heart and Bucknell, none of which is as good as UMass defensively. Just for comparison's sake.

And Maurer still remains 0-1 vs. Saraceno head-to-head :D
