36-17 USD early in the 4th.

A new low for the Yale football program. Why is it a new low? USD is a power and has been killing every team they've faced this year:
Fri 9/1/2006 San Diego at Azusa Pacific San Diego 17-0
Sat 9/9/2006 Dixie State at San Diego San Diego 41-7

Both of those teams have more schollies/grants in aid than Yale right?

To not be able to compete AT HOME against a team that they lost to last year by 3 ON THE ROAD (and had every chance to win) and when your entire offense is back minus the QB, that to me is a new low. Granted, I've seen many lows the last few years.

Yale gave up a lot of points today but no shame against that offense. The Yale offense though... what is up again? Oops, nix that question. Wrong thread.

Still 7-0 UCD over MSU. UCD is really outplaying MSU, though.

What's up with the PL today? 1-5 against the Ivies, with one game later. Colgate wins, but Lehigh and Lafayette both fall.

UC Davis Aggies, as usual relying on exceptional passing when the going gets rough. Defense is playing fantastic - Montana State less than 100 yards, Ags at about 250 yards. Need to wait for halftime stats.

I guess the only other time I pull for the Cats is if they make the playoffs. Then they are representing Montana. Other than that I agree, a good day is a Griz win with a Cat loss.

Cal Poly/Sac State might qualify as the "I Don't Care Bowl" but I will mildly support Cal Poly. Sac State is a rival while Cal Poly is in our conference. In the meantime, the real game is UC Davis 17 Montana Sate 0 at halftime. Should be a great second half.

I certainly hope not, Edwards has got boatloads of talent, but is still unrefined. But our defense is just getting better and better. Mars Hill, while no UNH, has averaged like 550 yards each of their first two games, has 23 total yards right now, which is less than 1 yard per play.

Not a huge surprise. I've seen EWU twice on TV and they are not very good, particularly at QB. Could be a long year in the Big Sky for the Eagles.

Thanks! I'm not too happy right now, but in the end, it's just a I-A game and not a conference game that really matters.

Here are the unofficial stats from Yahoo. Furman had 32 first downs and 505 yards of offense but still lost. :bawling:

SFA recovers a fumble at their own 18 to stop Arizona after they had turned the ball over. It's going to go to the half as Arizona 14, Lumberjacks 10. Not a bad half for SFA.

Joey Harper 22-yard draw play for a MVSU touchdown and a 13-0 lead. After beating Grambling last week, Alabama A&M must have celebrated a bit too much. It looks like it is going to be a wild year in the SWAC. Southern got stunned by Prairie View today. Grambling went to 0-3 with a loss to Houston.

Sounds like the Cal Poly D is tough this year. Sounds like the O is struggling. What happened tonight?

Mr. C
September 17th, 2006, 12:06 AM
SFA clearly intercepts a pass and Arizona's coach walks on the field to delay the game until they review the play. Interception stands. Total lack of class by AU's coach. The Jacks have the ball at the Wildcat 12.

Mr. C

Two flags on one play. SFA holding, Arizona pass interference to prevent an SFA TD pass.

Mr. C

Two yards for SFA's Brooks to the 10 on second down, third and 8

Mr. C
September 17th, 2006, 12:10 AM
QB draw nets nothing. Two penalty flags for illegal formation and holding (sounds like ACC officials). 27 yard FG is good to make it 14-13. But now the Pac-10 officials call still another HOLD.

Did Sac State play that well, or did Cal Poly's offense just struggle badly again? Opinions? Anybody go to the game?

Mr. C
September 17th, 2006, 12:14 AM
The hold on SFA on the 27-yard field goal was the tight end body-slamming an Arizona player. Could have been let go, but the Pac-10 officials are being eagle-eyes against the Jacks. I hate the way the officials influence these I-AA vs I-A games.

Mr. C
September 17th, 2006, 12:36 AM
Arizona gets a TD run from Chris Jennings, who pounded the ball down the field, to finally go ahead 21-10 with 10:35 left in the fourth. SFA is finally starting to tire out after giving it a great effort.

I was not able to go to the game in Sac. Listened to it. James Noble injured his ankle in the 2nd quarter and did not play after the 2nd quarter. Poly found it's passing game in the 2nd half but had 3 turnovers. One was 1st and goal on the 1 yard line. Sac picked up a fumble and returned it to the Poly 17. That was their TD drive. Poly defense continued to shine even as the offense put them in holes.

How bad was Noble's ankle injury? Any word? That would be a damaging loss (just like losing your senior QB Anthony Garnett was last year at mid-season). How have WR Ramses Barden and QB Matt Brennan been doing? Are they part of the offensive problem?

Noble did not play in the 2nd half but was walking around the sidelines so hopefully he is not too bad. Brennan and Barden did well. They had a long TD pass on the first play of the game. I have not seen the passing stats but they should be pretty good.

With less than two minutes left, Arizona faced a fourth and long from outside of the 10, with a 21-10 lead. Logic says you take the field goal and make it a 14-point lead, but the Wildcats GO FOR IT. Arizona throws a TD pass to make it 28-10 and make this game look like a blowout. To me, this was an extremely risky and STUPID coaching decision, done solely to try and make the score look more lopsided. There really wasn't a lot of logic involved here. Good effort by the Jacks, anyway.
