I'm guessing that my story will get two hits, you and my mother. I would have three, but my wife works in the sports department at the Observer, so she edits my story before it goes in the paper.

The game I covered Friday night was something else. Ardrey Kell is a new school in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte, where a lot of the money is. They spent $500,000 on their stadium, including field turf, the only field-turf field in the city. The press box, on the other hand, was worth about $500. 13-12 Ardrey Kell, the first victory in the program's history.

I had Providence and South Meck this Friday, and Providence had a 20-lead early in the first quarter. The Panthers then got a bad case of fumblitis and South Meck cut the lead to 20-15 before Providence held on. I was waiting to talk to the Providence coach, and he yelled at his team for almost 20 minutes. He was not a happy guy.

I covered Olympic and Harding Friday night. Olympic won 28-12, which sounds like a solid victory. Harding is not very good, and it wqas 14-12 Olympic at halftime.

I went to the field to interview the winning coach and I was actually frightened by him. He told his team, and I quote, "You are off tomorrow (Saturday), but we practice Sunday. Be there at 3:30. No, make that 2:30. Congratulations on your win." Then, he shot me a look like, "Don't even think about talking to me right now." He was pissed.
