CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com (http://www.bigsouthsports.com/)) – The Big South Conference is celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2013-14, and officially launched the year-long milestone with the unveiling of a commemorative logo today. The celebration also includes the voting and selection of All-Decade Teams for each Conference sport spanning the first three decades of the League’s existence.
The special logo will be used on all external communications in 2013-14, including press releases and weekly sport reports, media guides and fan guides, applicable print advertisements and various electronic communications. In addition, all 12 member institutions will utilize the Big South’s 30th anniversary logo on related elements as well as athletic facility videoboards and Big South Network broadcasts.
The newly-created All-Decade Teams will be voted on and selected by various administrators from the Big South’s member institutions, as well as fan voting. Fan votes will make up 20 percent of the overall total in determining All-Decade Teams. All-Decade Team candidates in each sport will be comprised of multiple All-Conference honorees; All-Americans; Big South Conference Hall of Fame members; Players of the Year, Tournament MVPs and First-Team All-Conference selections (1983-89 only); and coaches that won Conference Championships and/or was voted Conference Coach of the Year. All-Decade Teams will be selected similar to how current Big South All-Conference teams are selected in terms of the number of individuals honored. In the sports of baseball, softball and football, those All-Decade Teams shall be selected by position. Each All-Decade Team will have one head coach voted to the team.
All-Decade Teams will be selected in the years 1983-89, 1990-99 and 2000-09 for each sport sponsored by the Big South during that timeframe. All polling will be done online through www.BigSouthSports.com (http://www.bigsouthsports.com/). Fans are permitted one vote only. The All-Decade Teams will be announced just prior to each sport’s Big South Conference Championship event and All-Decade Team honorees will receive a memento to commemorate this special recognition.
