No, it's the sound of a blocked punt followed by a run into the end zone.
I like the matte helmets, BTW

We've always had an all white jersey for away games (sometimes with black pants though). These look much better.
My only complaint is the block A. I like the black and yellow one as an alternate but it's a shame to permanently change a logo with as much renown as the block A with the white. That is a nationally recognized logo.

Yes, they are the new unis.
I love the matte helmets--my favorite part of the new digs. Our previous unis were stale and The U ripoffs from 2000. We were in dire need of an update. I like these a lot!

The all black is my favorite. Black is our color. It strikes fear into the hearts of our foes. Any other color on the jersey is taking up valuable space that could otherwise be black. I feel the same way about chocolate ice cream vs moose tracks ect.

Not very much. I believe it is comes back to the school in more of a kick back on sales of Nike merchandise. It wasn't enough to keep the baseball team from going with another company that gave us a much better deal.

Less is more, as with our uni's. A lot of FCS program uni's are garish, as if the extra flourishes will make the team better. As for some of the more recent FBS uni changes, if you've got the money, then go for it (Oregon).

I really like GSU's uniforms. They say a lot about the mindset of a team. Some may say they are plain and dull, but from a image standpoint they tell people the Eagles are all business and a blue collar, hardworking group. All the flashy stuff is like the smallest kid in the neighborhood jumping up and down screaming "pick me - pick me" for a neighborhood backyard game. Other than the occasional throwback or special occasion, delivering a message of strength is why traditional powers like Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Penn State, Nebraska, Michigan and Notre Dame stick to simple uniforms. Plus, when you turn on the TV nobody has to tell you who is on.

I attended App in the mid 70's and to me that Yosef is our authentic mascot. I also think we should still be using a real person dressed up as a Mountaineer and not some goofy costume character. Also hoping to see the day the old shade of gold is brought back. The "athletic" gold of today started in 1982. Our uniform provider at that time, Cooks Sporting Goods in North Wilkesboro, only did business with certain manufacturers and they discontinued "Old Gold" (as it was called back then). Several other uniform makers did, but Cooks made a sizable contribution in the form of a kickback from sales to the Yosef Club and evidently that was more important than keeping alive a tradition that had been in place since the 1920's. Originally PMS 109 was used for the new gold but that somehow changed to the considerably lighter and more yellow PMS 115 over the years. There is a link to the Pantone chart below.
I take a great deal of pride in being the guy who is responsible for bringing back what the school likes to call "vintage" Yosef. In 2005 I started selling "vintage" Yosef car magnets at my parking spot in the Stadium Lot. I was amazed how many people, many of them students and younger alumni, wanted one. I sold over 200 the first year and as word began to spread double that for several years after. I got my old room mate who runs Mountaineer Mania and Jodie at Sports Fanatic to sell some as well. I even looked into trademarking it since the school had not used it in so long, but my attorney said the school had first right of refusal since it had been their primary mark in the past. The school didn't care until AppFan.com started selling merchandise with the old guy on it and taking $ out of their pocket. The school has never said a word to me about selling them. I stopped in 2011 when the school brought him back. Mission accomplished. I've always liked the Block A as a secondary logo, but never like it replacing Yosef on the helmet. Didn't care much for Mack Brown's flying Yosef that Sparky continued to use. I understand the younger folks not knowing much about the old guy & colors because our school does a horrible job of teaching the history & tradition of our program.
Never was a fan of the Miami stripe uniform either and happy to see a change. Except for the A I have no issues with the new digs. I actually don't like the solid black and white A's used on the pants. IMO, 2 or 3 different versions of the same logo shouldn't be used. On the solid black unis the A on the shoulder is outlined in white nut the A on the helmet is all yellow. On the all white unis the solid black A doesn't match the A on the helmet or pants. I actually like the gray with the Yosef on the helmet and shoulder. Personally would prefer Yosef in place of the A's on all the jerseys. The matte finish helmets are not my favorite, but I can live with 'em. They will go out of style in a few years just like the plain black evolved into black with gold flecks in it we've worn the last 7-8 years. This old man hopes to see the next phase is a return to real gold.

That won't change. This new outlined version of the A was introduced by the new baseball coach and is just a phase we're going through. I can't see it replacing the traditional Block A, designed by Jerry Moore, simply because we've got too much money tied up in those things.

I give you a big credit for what you've done for the vintage, old school, or balding (I prefer folliclely-challenged) Yosef. I have bought your magnets, and you even were nice enough to drop some off at my house a couple of years back. I love the old Yosef and believe that it and the block A should be our only logos forever and ever. I get why people don't like the black block A, but I don't think us using it is balking at tradition.
I actually like the yellow and the old gold and am fine with either color. The only change I would make to the uniforms would be adding some yellow to the pants in the form of a stripe. If the outcry was large enough for the white block A, I'd do that too, but I like the black as well.

That won't change. This new outlined version of the A was introduced by the new baseball coach and is just a phase we're going through. I can't see it replacing the traditional Block A, designed by Jerry Moore, simply because we've got too much money tied up in those things.
Agreed. I think this is more for the players and driving interest. I love the new unis, just wish we had some yellar pants!

Sucks for you! xlolx
Keep in mind, the grey jersey in the post you quoted is our alternate jersey that would be worn, at most, twice this season. Our home unis are all black, and the road unis are all white--but, the pants can be switched up to create a white/black road uni and black/white home uni.
The main logo for the helmet is a black block A with "Mountaineers" in white script (reversed from our usual logo). The alternate helmet's logo is a yellow Yosef head...a throwback version of our mascot logo.

I just went back and posted the direct links...not sure why it didn't work posting them as images.
I'm not sure about the "boom." To my knowledge it has nothing to do specifically with App State. My assumption is it is a basic Nike template for their gloves.

Do you live off 77 near Huntersville?

Good to see the alternate jerseys are the only ones with Always Attack on them. It's a neat slogan, but not on every jersey.

I know you aren't being combative.
Sorry for rambling, but you asked!

Agree, put cartoon figures in the stands to entertain the kids. We need a real live Yosef on the line of West Virginia Mountaineer that is a real person.http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g321/CRE48/Banners-%20Conference%20Maps-%20School%20Emblems/127_zpsebde0b0a.jpg (http://s1096.photobucket.com/user/CRE48/media/Banners-%20Conference%20Maps-%20School%20Emblems/127_zpsebde0b0a.jpg.html)

would a live action Yosef defeat a live action Sir Paladin? I can see Yosef having success from distance, with the musket and all, but Sir Paladin's armor is pretty sturdy. Close range, I think Sir Paladin takes it easily. Musket and coon skin caps are great, but not so useful against a broad sword.

Knock off? App used a real person from the late 20's until 1982. Boone resident Charlie Fox was the last "real" Yosef and resumed his role in 1999 when alumni and students vehemently disapproved after Borkoski's kid friendly Shoney's Big Boy version of Yosef was unveiled at Auburn. This is what happens when academic types get involved with athletics.

Kentucky Longrifle would penetrate the Paladin's armor.
Source: Deadliest Warrior episode showing a blunderbuss penetrating a knight's armor. Kentucky longrifle would have more penetrating power than a blunderbuss.
Edge: Yosef

Close range Sir Paladin would still lose cause he'll fall off his horse and be defenseless on the ground.
