im new to the board so forgive me if aything of this sort has been posted lately...
The past few years of Missouri State football have been dismal to say the least...but here is an quote that we received from our head coach Terry Allen
"Hey guys thanks for being a part of Maroon Madness. Hope you can make it Saturday night. As the new football coach here it means a lot to have you all involved!!! We changed our sideline this year so we can have our opponents in front of you guys and the PRIDE can have some fun with them. After every game that we win we will come into front of the band and sing the fight song. Stick around and sing with us. THANKS." Terry Allen
so that led me to this post...what is the tradition like at your our school...do you have something like this with the playing of the fight song or something else that would make your school unquie?...

Fight song? What that? ;) UMass is (?) unique in that the band insists
on playing the Same Damn Artsy-Fartsy Halftime Show every single game. Lordy that
gets boring. Whatever happened to "marching bands" that marched instead of dancing?

The UD band tuba section plays some little number every game which is kinda cool.

Well, I'm not sure how big of a tradition this really is, but...
At every UNI home game (especially cold weather),the announcer opens up with "Ladies and gentlemen, the the temperature outside is ____ and winds are at ____. Inside, 72 degrees with no wind. Welcome to the UNI-Dome."
Then for pregame:
"In 1876 the Iowa State Normal School was founded. Today the Panther symbolizes the pride, the tradition, and the loyalty of the University of Northern Iowa"
Band peforms pregame
And then the biggie: "Ladies and gentlemen, a ferocious predator has been seen stalking the nation. We caution you to watch...for that cat. *TC, our mascot walks out* "Ranked ____ in the country, 2005 Gateway Conference Champions, (and I assume a mention of the NC Game) Heeeeeeeeeerre Cooooooome the Panthers! *loud panther growl as team runs out*
May be cheesy for non UNI fans, but nothing gets you ready for UNI football like that! :hurray:

Can't find much of anything to rally around a chicken with. We've tried handsigns, a crow, tailfeathers, a Chant Strut, etc etc but nothing sticks. Change the mascot. ;)

Lafayette College used to have a tradition of rioting at the annual Lehigh game. Then it just became losing the annual Lehigh game. Both traditions have been stopped.

After every EKU victory (home or away) the players gather in the middle of the field to sing what I think is an old Appalachian folk song called "Cabin on the Hill."

At the north end of Mustang Stadium there is a memorial to the players that were killed in the 1960 Cal Poly Football Team plane crash at Toledo Airport. Before every home game the team files by and touches the stone.

At Murray we sing the fight song after every win...we haven't been singing too much lately...
Also, after every score our mascot (a thoroubred) circles the track....

We used to throw toilet paper after touchdowns. I remember being hit with rolls of TP many times as a kid. This tradition was squashed.
The panther also used to ring a gong during the pregame. WTF was that? Didn't mind seeing that go. Although it is a fond childhood memory.

Yeah, now they have the tornado siren go off after every touchdown.
Visiting teams must think us up in Northern Iowa are pretty strange, haha.

School Colors
The Texas State University school colors are maroon & gold. These colors have had various versions over the years, but the main colors have been a staple of the university and the athletics department for years.
Boko
The Bobcat has been the mascot of Texas State University since 1919 when then athletic director, Oscar Strahan, adopted the name from the recommendation of a committee formed to raise school spirit. In 1964 the bobcat was given and official name of "Boko" by Beth Greenless, a sophomore from Luling, TX, by beating out approximately 100 other students in a "Name the Bobcat" contest, sponsored by Phi Delta Gamma sorority, now Alpha Xi Delta.

The World Famous Texas State Strutters
The World Famous Texas State Strutters have performed in 21 countries spanning 4 continents. These girls have proudly carried the name of Texas State throughout the world. The Strutters have performed in 2 Presidential Inaugural Parades, at numerous NFL & NBA games, the nationally televised Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and MTV's Total Request Live.
Texas State Cheerleaders
One of the most spirited group on campus is the Texas State Cheerleaders. Charged with leading the Texas State university community in cheers during all Bobcat athletic events, these men and women work countless hours to bring pride, tradition and spirit to the Athletics Department and the University. The Texas State Cheer program is divided into two squads, the co-ed squad and the all-girl squad. In 2000 and 2003 the Texas State All-Girl squad brought pride to the university when they won the Universal Cheerleading Association National Championship.
Bobcat Volleyball "Point Bobcat"
The head coach of the Bobcats for the past 22 years has been head Coach Karen Chisum. Throughout those years Coach Chisum as established herself as a prominent volleyball head coach and brought numerous traditions to the Bobcat volleyball program. Most notably is the "Point Bobcat" tradition. After every point scored by the Bobcat volleyball team the entire crowd chants the words "Point Bobcat" immediately following the announcer's statement of the sentence.
Bobcat Football "Battle for the Paddle"
Annually Texas State University and Nicholls State take to the football field for the "Battle for the Paddle" rivalry game. Several year ago just before the Bobcats were scheduled to take on the Colonels, San Marcos had a great flood which soaked the field at Bobcat Stadium. Athletic Directors and coaches from each school decided to continue with the game and coined the annual contest the "Battle for the Paddle", poking fun at the fact that fans and athletes needed to use a boat and paddle to get to the game.
Lighting the Star on Jackson Hall
After every win, we light a star on the highest point on our campus. Because the campus is on a hill already, cars passing along the interstate can see it brightly shining above Bobcatland.
Rubbing the Stallions for good luck
We have a picture of two stallions fighting in our Quad. Students have been known to rub the testicles of the stallions for good luck before tests
