C'mon, folks. Last week at this time we had more opinions about Week 1 games than Bayer has aspirin. This week, nothing - or as close to nothing as we can get. I'll start it out with the games that mean something to me. Then it's your turn.

I think your way underestimating the NU huskies. They may lose to HC, but I guarantee it will be closer than 28-3. The bottom of the A10 is just as good if not better than the middle to low tier PL. I'd go as far to put the Huskies as slight favorites in this one.
My other suggestion is Maine will score at least 17 against YSU. YSU surrendered 21 to DII Slippery Rock. YSU defense is susceptable to the pass and Maine runs the spread offens with a four-year starter at QB. My best guess
YSU 34 Maine 27

I'm inclined to agree with W&M on this one. I expect Northeastern to win that one. Not trying to get down on my own conference, but I have to admit the bottom of the A-10 is nearly always playing better football than the bottom half of the PL. The gap is closing, but it is still there.

Yep, you could see why SBU is picked to win, but this is a close game IMO - with the Hoyas having a good shot at winning. SBU played well against Hofstra, but their offence wasn't impressive - lots of dropped passes and they played "stall ball" for most of the game. On defense they held their own, but were beat in the secondary by taller WRs. Can G-town throw the ball down the field?
However, IMO Fordham has very little chance vs. UA. How anyone could pick them after the beating they took last year, and the loss last week to Monmouth is beyond me. Yes, in time Masella will turn that team around, but it clearly shows that he started with a lot less talent in the Bronx than he had up in New Britain (Masella was 2-0 vs. UA while at Central). Albany wins by at least a TD!

Northeastern is the major favorite in Vegas. I took Holy Cross at +12 but, quite honestly, I wasn't all that confident about it.
My biggies are Eastern Illinois -7 over Indiana State, Northern Colorado +28 against Portland State, and App State -6 over JMU. I like Cal Poly at -5.5 (I could have gotten a better line but was a little late). Some other positions were Youngstown -4.5 over Maine, Western Kentucky pk, Georgetown +3.5.

Sure. Towson was an associate member of the Patriot League until only a few years ago and Elon is the new home of former Lehigh coach Snores Lembo. Both Marist and Sacred Heart have been on the Lafayette schedule recently. To me both of those games generate a lot more interest than most of the non-Top 25 football being played in places that I could barely locate on a map.

Vegas gives a line on a game involving Northeastern? Whodathunk.

This YSU-MAINE game is the 2006 version of the YSU-Northeastern Game. This board jumped on the Huskies bandwagon last year after nearly beating Georgia Southern. Well they came here and lost.
YSU wins this game 42-17; you heard it here FIRST.
Just a few tid-bits:
In this series, the home team has always won. (4 games)
After YSU has scored 50+ points, they are 16-2 in their next game.
When a YSU RB rushes for 100+ yards, we have won 9 in a row.
Finally.. YSU has won 8 straight at the friendly confines of the ICE CASTLE!

No small part of my cautious optimism this week is based on a comment by Georgetown's new coach, Kevin Kelly. I'm paraphrasing, but he said that with a new coaching staff and new systems, you see the greatest improvement from game #1 to game #2. Since he has had a lot of experience with turning around programs (Navy being the most recent), I am trusting his judgment here.
I guess that makes Elon's victory last week even more impressive and should give Towson something to think about.

I don't understand the whole betting spread thing, so if UCA is -23 does that mean that we are supposed to lose by 23?

Not too bad, after last week if we lose by one touchdown at "The Rock" against the defending National Champions, I'll be happy (well, at least I won't be disappointed)

No, it means the bookies think that if UCA gets 23 points, an equal amount of money will be bet on each team, then the winning bets will cancel out the losing bets, and the bookie collect 10% of the action.
If it's just a sports column, yeah, the columnist thinks you'll lose by 23.
Before the spread was invented, you could get odds, but nobody would bet (this week, say) on CCSU over Georgia Southern even at 100-1, but give them 35 or 40 points and you can even out the betting on each side.

Like with 13's picks last week, I mostly agree. Lafayette-Bucknell will certainly be close, but I'd guess slightly lower scoring. I'd also like to pick Fordham over Albany, but they seem to need some more work this season. I'll give Georgetown the benefit of the doubt (didn't they beat SB last year?), and say they pick up a win. As for the two A-10 matchups, a sweep is certainly possible, but I'm feeling a split this weekend. I'll take Holy Cross at home and Lehigh losing a tough one on the road. Unfortunately, this may only make Lehigh more desperate and dangerous when the League schedule comes around.

Actually, I like Cent. Conn. St. and 34.5 points in this one considering the way their conference played the first week. Georgia Southern should definitely win, especially at home, but it may be a little closer than most people think. Cent. Conn. St. has already played one game and Georgia Southern plays their first game with a new coach and new offensive scheme.
