Marion Jones' latest comeback came in a laboratory, where her backup sample turned up clean -- a stunning twist that clears her to compete and could validate a long list of triumphs sullied by years of doping allegations.
The "B" sample taken from one of the world's best-known and most decorated sprinters did not detect the banned endurance enhancer EPO, her attorneys said Wednesday night.

Me too. Surely she would have gotten off of the stuff, if she was ever on it in the first place. Who really knows?

I never thought she used it anyway.

I think part of the suspicion had to do with the men she was involved with

Well, if you believe Barry Bonds used PED's, then you have to believe Marion Jones did too, because the evidence (and some of the names in the stories) are basically identical.

so which one is the false result a or b, just becuse sample b came up negative doesn't mean it's true. For me, the testing is flawed which one is tested correctly, maybe they should go for a 2 out of 3 testing or 4/7.

Yeah, thats what worries me, these samples are supposed to be the EXACT same, yet one comes positive and the other negative

I know, but I was referring to her ex husband and her baby's father

From the article:
Questions have long been raised about the reliability of EPO testing, and this negative `B' test will spark further debate.
"I believe there are issues with that test," said Howard Jacobs, another Jones attorney who has defended several athletes on doping charges. "It's a difficult test. From what I saw on the `A' sample, it was questionable as to whether it should've been called a positive. I can't say I was shocked that the `B' came back negative based on what the `A' looked like."
From this, and other articles I have read, the first test was boarderline positive - so close that it never should have been declared "positive", but instead the B test should have been tested before anything was announced.

The whole thing is a mess. We all know that Barry Bonds was/is on steroids, yet he has never tested positive. I think everyone should be subjected to a blodd test. Then we can just get it all out of the way, and that should be the end of it. Surely, with the intelligence of the people who are in charge of the testing (they are scientists, aren't they?), we should have a way to make sure that the tests are accurate.

Shouldn't these tests be a simple positive or negative

You would think that, and you would be wrong.

The problem is we are mainly dealing with substances that occur naturally (or break-down into naturally occuring chemicals). What they are testing for in cases like EPO, Testosterone, etc is the AMOUNT of it, and the ratios, etc - so there is a fine line between a good test, and a bad test.

Also when do they test the second sample, at the same time
or only when there is a positive test. It seems the problem of
degradation would come in if they wait for a positive first test.
If I’m an athlete, I might take that chance on being border line
and gamble for degradation of the second test.

Feel for her fans, especially in Belize where they named a national sports complex after her. There is now talk of renaming the stadium. :(
