Too bad it's a pain in the ass w/ zoning, to renovate and add seats in mostly residential WLB, NJ

Glad to see! It was quite "cozy" there two years ago when the Hawks hosted Lehigh.

I've driven by there a bunch of times on the way to the Shore and I've often wondered why they couldn't build more stands or expand them a little. Zoning must be a bear because it seems like they would have the land to do it if they got permission (and $$).

“We are not proposing additional seating,” said University Spokeswoman Petra Ludwig Shaw.

That will really hurt Monmouth's ability to find a new league imo. CCSU is definitely a step ahead facility wise.

You definitely need a sherpa to get to the restrooms from Lehigh's press box - you have to travel down the mountain to get there! xlolx

Wendell Smith is an excellent NJ zoning and planning attorney. MU made a good choice in having him present the application. NJ Municipal Land Use Law matters can be challenging, though. NJ and CA have the most complex and challenging zoning laws in the US.

Their field is really like Fordham's... almost exactly like Fordham... plus a track and minus the location and scenery.

Every postage stamp-sized municipality in New Jersey is afforded a great deal of deference when it comes to local zoning/school/police matters. "Home Rule" prevails in the Garden State. Judges roll their eyes at appeals unless it's a politically-charged "Mount Laurel" issue.

I was wondering the same thing. Even with the proposed renovations the stadium will remain very NEC'ish....

What is the present capacity of Kessler Field?

We all know that within 5 years Monmouth will be a part of CAA football or Patriot League football. Let's stop pretending otherwise. Capacity is listed at 4600. Record attendance was 6233 though... I was one of them. Eventually capacity will be increased. They make a point to say that because they need to take it 1 step at a time w/ WLB residents and zoning. Focus on press box... THEN after that's completed, they can move on to the next step. If they ask for too much up front they'll be rejected. Building the MAC (basketball arena) was a big hassle. Many in community were against it because of traffic implications and such.

I believe it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 4,200. I was there in 2011 on a hot, mugggy day. It was very "cozy"....

Should be 'cozy' again this year. I plan to be there September 14.
