Even when the Boston Red Sox get good news about their pitching, it's overshadowed by the bad news.

On a night when Kyle Snyder (4-3) allowed two hits in seven innings of a 2-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, closer Jonathan Papelbon left with a shoulder injury and starter Curt Schilling was scratched from his next start with a mild strain in his right side.

That came several hours after the Red Sox announced Friday that rookie Jon Lester has a treatable form of lymphoma.

What would you like them to do, forfeit the rest of their games? :(

Indeed. 2004 ALCS anyone? :P

After last nights win, Boston sits just 5.5 out of the wildcard, so we're not dead yet.

no no no:nono:
boston is not makeing the playoffs
theo screwed them at the deadline
the white sox and twins are too good to let boston catch up
and unless the yankees go on a horrable loseing streak the dead sox are not going to make the playoffs

After today's 6-1 setback to the Jays Boston's now 6-9 vs. Toronto with another 4-game series to play in Toronto. Plus, if the upcoming 4-game series at Yankee stadium is anything like the most recent Sox-Yanks matchup, the 9-back Red Sox and the 11-back Blue Jays will almost certainly swap places in the standings.

Suppose this does happen for Boston, and they finish third in the AL East. What do the Ortiz-for MVP folks foresee for Papi if he winds up on a third-place team? Does the recent hospitalization also become a factor?

Considering Boston is playing with a AAA team right now, I'm inclined to say he might get a mulligan

This is a fact. Although I am a diehard redsox fan this season is a lost cause. Theo maybe scrwwed them, but you cant really say that because you didnt know John Lester was going to have cancer, David Ortiz was going to eat to many hotdogs, and Papelbon hurt himself one 1 lousy pitch
