This stuff is AWESOME! I ran around on the field, did "cuts", jumped around...I was stunned by the bounces and fles the field has. If you closed you eyes you would not know you weren't walking on grass...and if you are not down close on it...you would never know you weren't look at a perfectly manicured lawn. Well, worth the money spent.

Funny, the way I got in was was thru the maintenance side of the stadium...the have couple of large mowers and tractors back there...I assume we will be having a yard sell at some point :)

Next project is a $100,000 "spruce up" by new stadium boss Frank Burke...complete redo of the stadium boards, a bit of painting, a redo of the stadium club, etc.

Two "lucky" teams and their fans this December will get to experience a field and stadium as nice as we have ever had in Chattanooga. Thanks mainly to a bunch of concerned Mocfans that were embarrased by last years debacle...they raised the money, put out the contracts, and finished the entire project in less than 20 weeks. Not too shabby...makes me quite proud actually.

Add in the May completion of the $120 million Riverfront renovation...and there will be even more to do for those visiting...a $20 million expansion to the Hunter Art Museum (with a bridge and incline trolley up from the Aquarium to the Museum)...a $50 million expansion (new building) and saltwater exhibit (sharks!) to the Aquarium that also includes a "petting" tank (no sharks) and a butterfly exhibit (1,000's of butterflies from all over the world)...you get to walk thru the actual habit with all the butterflies flying around (very cool experience)...along with a couple miles of new walkways, fountains, waterfalls, and piers along both banks of the river.

Do I sound like I work for the Convention and Visitors Bureau?? (I don't just a proud Chattanoogan). Heck, we might even find a report from Montana something to do besides asking parking attendants if they knew about the football game. :)

Rumor has it that EWU may be installing field turf this summer, don't know if it will happen or not. But I have played on the stuff, and it is SO much better than grass. It feels awesome.

It's long been my opinion that the Griz homefield advantage is as much (or more) a result of a consistent surface, as the UM crowd.
You plant a foot, the field responds the same - game after game.
Consistency breeds confidence, confidence creates performance, wins are the result.
Expect more Griz NCs.

:D :D . I was wondering if they would be able to change the endzones to put in the names of the participating teams?

That stuff is terrific. The players report occasional minor burns, but still love it. Nothing compares to natural turf when it's in good shape, but late in the season--especially in colder climates--it is phenomenal. Georgetown should have it in place this fall. Question is whether there will be anywhere to sit this season.

"I was wondering if they would be able to change the endzones to put in the names of the participating teams?"

Everything you see in the pictures is permanent (blue grass, white grass is not painted). But they purposely left the middle of the field and the end zones blank so they can paint in whatever they want from game to game.

Looking at the close-up of the 10 yard line, is that a curb just over the end line? That looks dangerous.

chattanoogamocs

Not a curb...it is flat, about 12" wide and a slight "V" drop in the center...it is for drainage...and while it looks like it is right behind the end zone line, it is really about 8-12 feet back (I know because it is also the unofficial "stay behind" line for end zone photographers)...weird optical illusion...if you follow along the 10, then the G, see what looks like basically a straight line in the back (right behind the goal line)...that is actually an ad for Thiolon (the turf company) that is 6 feet wide and about 4 feet deep (but it only looks about 6" deep in the picture)...I was going to take a pic of it, but ran out of disk space (the photos were a spur of the moment thing while I was on that side of town running errands).

To give further perspective, it's more than 20 feet from the back of the endzone to the brick wall.
