Scoring 30.2 points per game certainly played a favorable role in Illinois State’s 9-4 season and advancement to the quarterfinals of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
Yet head coach Brock Spack has latched on to a less heralded statistic that reveals his offense was not as efficient as it could have been in 2012.
ISU punted 48 times in 2011. That number rose to 77 last season.
