All offensive line starters return from an 8-3 team that shared the CAA Football championship, which gives the University of Richmond a chance to have a very productive running game. Now, the Spiders need to identify a lead back.
That’s what UR intends to do during 14 spring practices, with the first session today.
Richmond’s top three rushers from 2012 are gone: Kendall Gaskins (604 yards, 13 touchdowns), quarterback John Laub (356 yards), and Jovan Smith (320 yards), whose career was ended by a neck condition.
Jacobi Green gained 174 yards as a true freshman last season, and figures to be with the first team as spring ball commences.
“The more we watched Jacobi on film from last year, he shows up pretty good,” UR coach Danny Rocco said of Green, a 5-foot-9 180-pounder from Jacksonville, Fla. “He can do things. He can catch. He can protect. He’s tough. He can break the long one.”....
