It's not a lock, but assuming the Tigers do make the playoffs, how will Leyland set up the starting rotation?
I just don't think that Verlander should be the Game 1 starter the way that he has pitched this year. He just hasn't been himself.

I agree, but Jim Leyland is typically loyal to his players, sometimes to a fault. My guess is that he'll go number three, even though this year he's probably their fifth best starter this year.
I will say though that my post this morning was after seeing the score and not reading the details. Verlander gave up three runs in seven innings last night, not great but not terrible either. The Tigers blew some great scoring opportunities and Seattle didn't blow it open until the eighth inning.

Just got off the phone, a friend offered a free ticket to next Tuesday's Twins/Tigers game. Should be fun.

Congrats! Enjoy!
Can I sneak in an Off Central but still about baseball question? When I was watching Texas at Tampa last night, I see that the fans still manage to stay away in droves from Tropicana Field, despite the exciting team that has played there for several seasons. After hearing about my Twins moving to Charlotte, or being contracted before building Target Field, I was wondering if the Rays are rumored to be moving anywhere or if a new stadium is in the works? I haven't heard anything for quite awhile, but that just looked embarrassing in the middle of a playoff chase.

Haven't heard anything, but even the Twins had better crowds during the down years. A lot of people in the Tampa area are not from Tampa and are fans of other teams. If I lived in Florida, I would go to more spring training games than Rays or Marlins games.

Magic number for the Tigers is now two after last night's improbable win. xthumbsupx
Miggy had to leave the game after aggravating his groin injury. xsmhx He's going to be day to day for the rest of the season I fear.
Cleveland takes the lead for the second Wild Card. Hopefully KC can help them out today against Texas. xnodx

It would be nice to have KC sneak into the WC with Cleveland. 3 teams from the Central would be awesome!!

This will be interesting. Tampa @ Texas tomorrow night- winner takes all. Then the winner @ Cleveland on Wednesday- another winner takes all. Watched the bottom of the 9th as the Twins end another miserable season.

Tigers rotation is set for the series. Scherzer, Verlander, Sanchez and Fister. I'd have Sanchez pitch in game 2, but I guess Leyland wanted the power arms in Oakland.
Good luck to Cleveland tonight!

Delmon Young and the playoffs, WOW. Too bad he couldn't play an entire season like he does the playoffs. Delmon did have some streaks during his past seasons, just not enough to justify his defensive liability.

Verlander? vs Colon? in the series decider.
They're going with Colon? I thought the kid that pitched in game 2 would get the chance. But Colon did settle down after the first inning in game 1 and maybe they want his experience in the deciding game.
Which Verlander will we see?

One thing I noticed was the timeouts after sliding into a base to brush off the uni. The number of pitches was high also. Both Lester and Sanchez had over 110 pitches when they left and Sanchez had a lot of walks, along with all the K's, which take more pitches than a simple ground out/fly out.

I got back home in time for the 8th and 9th innings. I thought that they had it but Big Papi proved otherwise. Watching the replay I saw the security cop making no move to catch Torii Hunter. I'm glad that he wasn't seriously injured.

Wonder who will replace him? They could keep the same mantra and go with Lamont, McClendon or Brookens, or chase a proven winner, if there is one out there. Not excited about Baker, maybe Matt Williams, Kirk Gibson would be interesting.

Yup. He has zero managing experience in either the Majors or Minors, but hopefully he'll work out. It will be an interesting post season.
