GSU's first team All-SoCon D-Lineman Charrod Taylor served abord the USS Cole and was on board the day it was attacked by an al-Quada homocide bomber in Yemen.

"On October 12, 2000, Taylor was on the USS Cole as it was refueling in the port of Aden, Yemen. He was ready to go eat with a friend, Timothy Saunders, when his watch officer reminded him of an assignment that he had to complete before he could eat lunch.

Little did Taylor know that his watch officer also saved his life. While performing his task, Taylor heard -- and felt -- the explosion.

Terrorists had pulled up next to the Cole in a boat filled with explosives.

Saunders, and 16 other crewmen on the Cole, were killed.

Taylor knew he could have been killed, too.

"It's hard to put into words even today," said Taylor of the horrifying episode. "Honestly, I try never to think about it."

It's always great to have guys like that on your team. Even if they aren't the superstars, they have to provide some maturity and perspective that can help everybody out there. I wish him the best.
