There's really no NEED to root against Davidson in anything but basketball, because it is the only sport that mini-Duke decides to fund or support at a respectable level. Doesn't make it any less fun to root for the opposition and watch their other "varsity" teams fail miserably.
They can sponsor scholarship football and play it in the SoCon or GTFO, as far as I'm concerned. Mid-major basketball, high-major douchiness.

GSU homerism aside, Furman right now has the SoCon's best record, two series wins against two conference contenders, a top 3 offense, and the second best pitching. Even after giving up 22 runs in one game, Furman's pitching staff has still given up almost 20 fewer runs than GSU's staff (in more games played).

If you mean historically then yes, absolutely. There are a number of SoCon teams with a richer baseball history than App. The conference has been strong in baseball for a long time and it wasn't until we were able to build indoor facilities that allowed the team to practice year round that the program turned around.

UCA rolled Grambling State 30-0.
Michael Marrietta went 7 for 7 with 3 HRs, 11 RBIs, and one of those HRs was a grand slam.
Most of the starters were pulled early. Strikes were called high in the zone too. Refs wanted it over. So did the fans and both teams.

Doubtful, just because baseball generates such limited revenue. Most schools serious enough about football (or hoops, for that matter) to change conferences will make the move even if it is at the expense of baseball.

Holding fast in the top 25, Poly beat Cal after going 1-2 vs. Cal State Fullerton...Poly is a very good team and has many great players with high ceilings. Bryan Mundell, a freshman d.h. shows a lot of promise--8 homers this year and Peter Van Gansen, another freshman, is playing shortstop like he has had lots of college experience. Others young players to watch include Jordan Ellis (of), Tommy Plushkell (1b), Talyor Chris (p), Danny Zandona (p) and K. Bloomquist (p). The senior class is lead by Denver Chavez (2b). To say his defense has been outstanding would not due him justice. And the .390+ batting average doesn't hurt either. the juniors are lead by Jimmy Allen (3b) and David Armenderiz (of). Both are good hitters with Armenderiz having good power.
Both of the catchers, Elliot Stewart (sr) and Michael Hoo (jr) are very good defensively. Combined with the pitching staff they manage to limit stolen bases against to less than 50%, and, there have been lots of runners picked off.
If there is a glaring weakness, it is depth in starting pitching. Senior Joey Wagman has been great with an ERA less than 3.00 and averaging more than a strike-out an inning. In his game against Notre Dame, he struck out 12. The intersting thing is that 6 of them were called 3rd strikes, a catergory he leads the Big West--he also leads in total strike-outs. Matt Imhoff is a promising lefty who also strikes guys out-(soph). The difficulty for the staff comes with the Sunday Starter. Bryan Granger currently fills this role. He is kind of young but has not yet developed the consistency to pitch well in every game. Reid Reilly leads the closers and has good stuff, but he might be over used which may, at times, affects his ability to get the job done. Micheal Holbake is another reliever that strikes out more than a batter per inning, but sometimes he loses his control which leads to to many walks. Taylor Chris and Danny Zandona do a very good job as long relievers and I expect them to only get better with time.
Poly does play in the Big West, which at one time was one of the more respected leagues in the NCAA. Along with Cal State Fullerton; UC Irvine, Long Beach State and UC Riverside, other members of the Big West all have a great baseball history. And UC Santa Barbara is a program on the rise. The future of Big West baseball looks good.
