Old Dominion University has fired men's basketball coach Blaine Taylor.

Athletic director Wood Selig relieved Taylor of his duties on Tuesday. Neither Selig nor ODU President John Broderick took questions after making the announcement during a news conference. Taylor did not attend the news conference.

Taylor has the most wins in school history, compiling 239 wins and 144 losses in 12 years. But Taylor's team has struggled this season with a 2-20 record.

He fell off the wagon several years ago and has been spotted drinking in Norfolk, in Richmond during the CAA tournament, etc. He was kept around with no intervention. Recently, he showed up to his coach's show (ironically, sponsored by Bud Light and hosted at a bar) and was very obviously inebriated. He proceeded to spill water all over himself, slur his words, and rambled and mumbled about all manner of crazy, inane things. He couldn't even say his own players' names correctly (ODU took the video down, but here's the blurb).

When I saw this posted earlier I had a sneaking suspicion of the cause. He's a good guy, I've had a few beers with him myself when he was out in various Missoula bars but unfortunately it takes over his professional life at times. I wish him all the best in getting his demon under control once again. Very unfortunate.
