However, the growth of the endowment has been in the double digits for several years in a row. Historically, ASU was a teachers college. Prior to 1968 it was in fact Appalachian State Teachers College. At the time it became ASU, there were 8000 students enrolled. Today, the figure is double that. As the university has grown, it has become a comprehensive university and the growth of the endowment reflects that.

The facts are the facts and schools like Furman, Davidson, and the Citadel have had outstanding support from their alums over the years. Quite frankly, Appalachian hasn't had the same level of support but I believe as ASU has evolved into the institution it has become, the level of support will continue to grow as it has over the last decade. Each institution is unique and has its own particular mission. I don't think any of us here have to shrink from feeling good about the educations we received.

Actually, it is not news. The Citadel has always been one of the easiest schools to get into in the Southeast. It was when I went there, and it still is.

I had a roommate who had an 850 on the SAT. He finished in four years with a business degree and went in the Army. He is now one of two Secret Service watch supervisors at the White House.

El Cid has never made an issue out of admissions standards. We pride ourselves on our graduation rates and student development, and recognize that some of the poorest students in American history have been some of our most prolific soldiers and citizens. I'll put our 4-year graduation rates up against anybody. We aren't #1, but we are up there, and we have a very high freshman attrition rate (as does VMI) that we have to contend with every year.

Endowments are usually there for the academics. My guess is that a lot student aid is provided through those endowments to help defray the expense of attending a private school. I'm sure monies from endowments could find their way on to the athletic side but generally they are there to maintain the academic needs of the college.

Those two old schools, have the longest tenure in the conference, and pretty much have the most money (along with Davidson, who probably has a slight bit less of a say given their football). There's a lot to be said for that.

I've been to the Whee twice. That is a beautiful picture. When I was there it seemed like a smaller version of App with older looking buildings. The biggest difference, which is exemplified by this photo, is the lack of anything adjacent to the campus. The "town" area is a little ways off. It blew my mind how isolated it was. We were going down the highway, there wasn't a single building in sight and then BAM--on campus.

I really do respect the league for what it is. What it is is a very solid FCS football conference. What I want for App is an FBS football conference, plain and simple. My attitude gets misconstrued because I tend to go balls to the ball, no holds barred when arguing with people on anonymous forums.

A big part of any program is it's fans (on the boards anyway) and the way they are perceived and I can tell you I had more respect for the program, on that basis, from the earlier era here.

Oh please. App's priority is football? Our academics have advanced drastically, our APR is top 10% in the nation, both our academic and athletics facilities, have been massively upgraded. Even our admissions requirements are higher.

I don't disparage ASU because I like ASU, and pull against them only when they are playing The Citadel. So you don't have to tell me about ASU.

The minute someone lays you two a little grief, you both go into meltdown mode and take everything seriously. And then of course, your constant disparaging of the SoCon (which is just a smokescreen for disparaging the schools in it) is a turn off to just about everybody. You remind everyone of every single Marshall fan that ever showed their a$$ about the SoCon. Now, many years later, we all enjoy watching them languish in mediocrity in their also-ran conference (still getting killed by WVU), not because they are Marshall, but because of their a$$hat fans. Because when someone from the SoCon tells you the same thing, you guys think it's just smack. Where exactly do you fit in? Citdog and I are ribbing eachother, and you come in and basically post you dont like a few of us. How is that ribbing? First post, no preamble, nothing to do with the ribbing, what exactly is that? If a stranger comes up to you and slaps you in the face, I imagine you'd tend to take it seriously. Is this a thin skinned shifting of what happened or what's going on here? I replied to a friend "AA2" that I know from App St. that said he hopes App stays which was in response to another "I can't wait to get the F out of here" post from someone else.

I responded I would miss posters like him and the old group but really wouldn't miss the App nubes with their style and put downs all the time. You know, kind of the way a couple of you App guys view UNCC fans....thinking they are better than you and all that sort of thing.

That's how I fit in.

This is simple man. citdog has been a douchebag from the word go and there are guys like mike and ASUMountaineer that cross him every time they feel like without any of the problem in appearance.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Well, it isn't a little secret, because I have said it here several times. Maybe some people just don't pay attention.

I know as much about ASU as I do The Citadel. Half my family went to ASU. I have family there now. I have a place in Valle Crucis which is where I live when I am R&R back in the US. I don't disparage ASU because I like ASU, and pull against them only when they are playing The Citadel. So you don't have to tell me about ASU.

I don't have any problem poking you or Apphole, because quite frankly, you're a$$holes. Neither of you can carry Appaholic's or ASUG8's jocks. The minute someone lays you two a little grief, you both go into meltdown mode and take everything seriously. And then of course, your constant disparaging of the SoCon (which is just a smokescreen for disparaging the schools in it) is a turn off to just about everybody. You remind everyone of every single Marshall fan that ever showed their a$$ about the SoCon. Now, many years later, we all enjoy watching them languish in mediocrity in their also-ran conference (still getting killed by WVU), not because they are Marshall, but because of their a$$hat fans. Fortunately for you, there are plenty more ASU fans who aren't that way.

So- I don't have a problem in the world with ASU. I have a problem with you two a$$clowns, and frankly I wonder why you are even here. Shouldn't you be making friends on the Sun Belt message boards? Since, after all, the SoCon and FCS are beneath you.

He posts whatever he wants, for however long he wants and you choose to lend weight to his douchebaggery by weighing in against the people he is instigating. If Citdog wants to throw elbows, thats fine, I'll take it and give it back, but yes, I do wonder why somebody with no dog in the fight choose to weigh in on a particular side. As far as im concerned its harmless 50/50.

Because citdog has been here forever, everyone knows his shtick, and everyone knows he's not really serious. I haven't been fortunate enough to meet him personally yet, but I have met Ursus and Appaholic who are personal friends with citdog. They are great guys, and I trust them when they say the same about our Heeb cadet. I do return the douchebaggery to citdog, but neither of us take it personally because we know it's not serious. Life's way too short to get pissy and fight battles on an anonymous message board.

Yeah, but once LGSE stole my line it lost it's luster for me a little bit so I abandoned it a little bit but you are dead on...I muffed that up completely and did it completely wrong. Keep an eye out for a "dolt" to pop in on my next reply to Grizo on my next appearance at the plate to get back on track.
