NINETY SIX, S.C. – Coastal Carolina shot a 307 in the final round of the 2005 PUPS Big South Women’s Golf Championship to overtake leader Birmingham-Southern to win its first Big South Women’s Golf Championship since 1998 with a three-round score of 906, eight shots ahead of the Panthers’ 914. High Point finished third in the event, held at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C, with a three-round 931. Coastal Carolina’s Line Cordes, the Big South Women’s Golfer of the Year, captured Medalist honors with a 1-under 71 to finish at even par 216. Three players tied for runner-up honors at 227.
Cordes, who is the first Coastal player to win Medalist honors since Paige Landry in 2002, recorded a 2-under 34 on the front nine with two birdies and seven pars. On the back nine, Cordes notched one birdie and six pars for a 37 and 18-hole score 71, finishing at 216 (72-73-71). High Point’s Anni Svensson, Coastal Carolina’s Katy Heher and Birmingham-Southern’s Shelley McGraw tied for second at 227. High Point’s Kate O’Sullivan entered the final round one shot behind Cordes, but carded an 88 to finish tied for eighth at 234.
Winthrop finished fourth with a 956, 14 shots ahead of fifth-place finisher Bucknell (970). Radford posted a final round 327 to move ahead of Charleston Southern for sixth place at 990, while the Bucs finished at 995. Associate women’s golf member Holy Cross tallied a 1144 for eighth-place.
The remaining All-Conference honorees, based on their Championship finish, are Svensson, Heher, Birmingham-Southern’s Emily Klein, Bucknell’s Amy Loughney and Charleston Southern’s Erica Donovan. Below are the final team scores and top 20 individual results:
