When I see that there are currently 347 D1 teams, with three more coming in- Abilene Christian, Grand Canyon and Incarnate Word- it makes me think that 350 is too many. Way too many.

Do you think they should have a I-AA in basketball like football? And have an attendance requirement? I know Sac State plays in a building resembling a high school gym.

Yes. There are way too many. Division III has around 400-500 but their culture is way too different from Division I's. MIT's men's (which Harvard plays to open or which is scheduled early in the season in the past few years) and Chicago's women's (this was true only until Roussell was pirated away by Bucknell last year) teams are usually in the top 25% of those teams.

Division II, however, is the "poor guy" in the middle of the conference realignment and transfer controversy. However, they have done their best to salvage their reputation, e.g. allowing Canadian schools to enter the NCAA through them and continuing to pirate away teams from the NAIA and Division III.

I think if you can't put at least 1000 fans in the seats you shouldn't have a DI basketball team. Sac State has just over 600.

According to that link above, some DI schools (both reclassifying and permanent) still average three digits in home attendance. No wonder why they don't advance much in basketball... xreadx

Looks like NDSU playing in El forko grande upped your average by 500 last year.

That and UND having a winning record and a conference title did help too. With UND playing better and in 4th place attendance should be a little better.
