I have him just outside of the top 100. I think he gets a shot with a good pro day.

Have you heard from coaches of the two schools that say that or talked to scouts? Reason I ask is because the scouts I talked to are saying 7th round or PFA for Swanson and PFA for Cordell. Cordell is not in the combine so he will need a good pro day to definitely get himself in the draft. He's also not in one of the top 2 all-star games so nobody will see him against top competition.
As for Swanson he is going to the combine and if he runs well and has a good workout overall I would definitely put him in the draft. I had him in the 7th round previously but I dropped him out because usually in the late rounds teams draft workout freaks at CB and I don't see him putting up a freakish workout. If he does put up a freak workout then I definitely think he gets drafted.

Keep an eye on Southeastern Louisiana QB, Nathan Stanley ... don't be shocked if he sneaks in there somewhere ... has size and a big league arm ... stats were very misleading due to 60+ drops this year ... He'll be playing in both the Casa Del Sol and East-West Shrine games.

I know but I think he is a 6'4 and change, 4-star FBS transfer so he is getting some attention. Every scout I talked to did not give him a PFA or draft grade but SLU folks told me a few teams told them he would get a shot. I don't see him getting drafted and honestly I don't think there is any chance I move him up based on the regular season. He didn't do that much on tape. He has some tools but only 9 TDs and 9 INTs with just 1,952 yards and 54.1 completion percentage there are much better QBs out there.
I see him as a secondary league prospect, not a NFL guy. He will get a shot in the NFL but I'm surprised he got a Shrine invite. I thought Brad Sorensen would have been a better invite than him.

Depending on his pro day, I think Steven Miller will get a look as a free agent. Not an every down back but great hands as a receiver in the backfield and elusive in the open field.

I think he should. Very good player. I like his speed and vision. Just needs to get a little thicker and have a strong pro day.

I saw 3-4 games and I thought he was a developpmental guy who could maybe be a #3 in a couple years.
I don't talk to every team. Not really going to pool the opinion of bad teams who haven't evaluate well.
I don't think the Shrine Game has done a great job with FCS players this year. Brandon Thurmond is just a stat guy and so is Kejuan Riley. We all know the WIU center is there because of his last name only, and Brad Sorensen is a much better prospect than Stanley. Sorensen was actually invited to the combine unlike Stanley. Stanley needs to show well in these all-star games for sure.

Nathan is a developmental guy but he makes throws most can't make and has a lot of upside ... you have to consider he was in four different offenses in four years, two at Ole Miss and two at our place ... there are some good clubs who evaluate very well who like him ... not saying he's gonna be Tony Romo, but he'll get a chance, hope he can make the best of it.

He will get a shot but I don't think he will make it. I'm not looking for players who may or may not get a shot. Players I have at the top of my board are those who can make it. I think he will get a shot and could latch in a few years but he needs work. Let's see what he does in the Shrine. He needs to stand out there in what I think is a very average roster. There are 20 or so players who got snubbed big time. Shrine isn't as talented as it has been in the past so he definitely has to stand out in that group. He's not the worst player there by far.

I never said he should be at the top of your board, but I do think he has a decent shot to make it, and so do some folks who count ... we'll see how it shakes out.

He just never put up stint of good games overall or showed me more than a decent arm, good size, and the ability to make a throw here and there. He's not as good of a player as Brad Sorensen or Matt Brown and I think their careers deserve an all-star game more. Not hating on Stanley but when you pick players for an all-star game you expect them to you know...be an all-star and those two have been all-conference and Stanley has never had an all-conference season. Again, nothing personal against but him he just has tools and has not done nearly what he should with those tools. You either wonder if it is the coaching or if Stanley just has been lazy. There is something there. If everything was great from coaching, work ethic, etc then he would have been a 3,000 yard, 25 TD, 10 INT player at minimum. There is some raw talent there.

I just put this board together today. I think the biggest surprise names for some are Wilcox, FA
Wilcox is certainly an "out-of-nowhere" player. He slipped under the radar as a receiving slotback which he was (IIRC) responsible for more offense than any GSU player in both 2010 and 2011. His rushing or receiving yards alone weren't enough to garner any attention but he was a key player that was definitely overlooked. He played his only college season as a safety this past year. At safety he still doesn't have any impressive numbers to his name but the scouts like his size and speed (the guy returned kickoffs for goodness sake).

I'm beginning to question your ability to evaluate and who you're talking with ... Nathan has an above average arm by any standard and can make any throw on the field. He doesn't have the career numbers of Sorensen, because of his situation at Ole Miss and a difficult situation here when he first transferred, but he has more raw tools and more upside. He got better each week and played well in our system despite having a brand new receiving corp who were inconsistent running routes and catching the football (we had over 60 drops!) ... Playing QB in the NFL is a difficult proposition for anyone from the FCS, and it's easy to say someone won't make it, but Nathan has the physical tools to play in the NFL. Thankfully there are enough teams who recognize this and do their own evaluation and homework. He's not playing two All-Star games because he begged.

Did you watch the Casino Del Sol game? He has a decent arm but he was not good.
And just because a guy has an all-star game invite doesn't mean he is good. Derrick Cox of W&M didn't get any invites and he went 3rd round and is still playing several years later.
I didn't say Stanley begged but I would like to see who his agent is. Apparently it is someone who has some pull with games and combined with the fact he was a 4-star Ole Miss transfer who was suppose to be the next Manning probably has got him some shots. I can tell you without any doubt I know he did not get one vote for the NFL Combine, and a lot of players got votes who didn't get in.
There are few QBs from FCS playing in the NFL and all of them had much better careers. He might make a practice squad but it would be a bad NFL team and not one of the elite ones. He's not as good as Devlin from Delaware or Thigpen of Coastal Carolina, by far.
And you can question me all you want but I was the first one to rank Tretter, Wilcox, and I hyped Alford big time before anyone. Alford is now the top rated FCS prospect for sure because of the season he had. I know the SLU coaches and they know what I do. I'm not trying to be mean but just saying the truth.
There have been a lot of disagreements with me and others on this board over the years but nobody has come back to me to rub one in my face for a reason because in the end I was pretty much right. The only thing I was wrong about was early on I said DJ Smith was not a draftable player and then App moved him to ILB and a couple months before the draft I then said he would be the 3rd App player taken and go late in the draft. He was a 6th round pick and taken behind LeGree and Kilgore. I was the first to hype Kilgore. People were shocked he got a combine invite but his name had been on NFL team draft boards since October.
You are basically sitting on the fence. You aren't saying he will make it but you are saying there is a shot because of his tools. I agree with you that he has tools but I just don't see him making it as more than a fringe practice squad guy for a year and there are better players who could do what he does. I don't think Matt Brown is more than a fringe roster guy either but he has had a deserving career. Just look at what Brad Sorensen, Matt Brown, and even Grant Enders have done and they all deserve an all-star game more than Stanley.
For SLU Alford and Devan Walker are legit prospects. Alford will get drafted and Walker should be a good free agent signing who I believe might make a PS, although I could see him getting cut, too. He has some flashes of really good stuff and then times where he is silent but has the athleticism and will knock the crap out of you.
Stanley was over his head at the CDS game but based on history he should do better in the Shrine Game. If he lights it up at the Shrine or plays solid then he should definitely get a shot but if he throws picks and looks out of place there I doubt he gets more than a tryout as just more than a camp body who gets cut a day or two later.

Yes he does. His shoulder is hurt though and needs to be handled but as long as he has a solid pro day he should certainly get one. He was solid at the Raycom practices.

he looked good, what little they played him. guess they played him just like a pro fullback...lots of blocking and a couple of nice catches for 23yds. i only saw him miss one block but made many nice ones. didn't notice his shoulder bothering him. when did he injure it?

I don't know when he did. I'm under the impression he played with it hurt this fall. He is very tough so he will fight through it. I was told by some folks who had seen him that his shoulder did not look good and you can tell it is a problem. When in pads though he can put something on it and still play.

I watched the Shrine game. The best players from FCS in the game (not practice but game only) were Terron Armstead, Keith Pough, and Mike Catapano.
Nathan Stanley had the best arm of all QBs but the others were awful. There were throws where the ball was not tipped and you could tell they don't have the arm strength. Stanley has some tools but he is not a good QB at all right now. In fact, outside of his arm he had nothing else. He was slow, lacking mobility, and was not accurate. Being 6'4 and having a decent arm isn't enough to make it.
Earl Watford did not play. Disappointed to see that. Tyrone Goard didn't have any catches.
Overall I think Armstead helped himself while Pough and Catapano confirmed they are possible late round picks.

I have no reason to get into a huge argument with you. You are saying he will make a roster and I am saying he won't. He will get a tryout or a contract but 54%, throwing picks like crazy in 2 all-star games, and a 9-9 TD-INT ratio so far is not a very good body of work. He really needs to improve his decision making and skills overall. He has not performed well this fall or in the postseason.
Here are his combined stats so far in two all-star games:
4 of 14 passing, 38 yards, 3 INTS, 1 sack, 4 carries, 4 yards
And remember that the first game he was in is considered the lowest of all the major games with mostly free agents and secondary league prospects while the Shrine did not have great talent. There were 20-25 players in the TVN, Raycom, and NFLPA that were much better than some guys in the Shrine. Every scout I talked to said the QBs were very bad. They said Stanley was the best of the bunch but they had the wrong group of QBs. Klein deserved to be there due to his name and awards but there were better ones like Sorensen in other games and ones like Matt Brown who have been snubbed.
My prediction is that he gets a contract or tryout and depending on the team is cut in the first or second wave of cuts. He will end up in a secondary league playing, if he wants to. Your prediction is that he will get signed as a free agent and make a NFL team. While he has tools he is not playing very good right now. I hope he improves but until he does I can't upgrade him and neither will NFL teams.
