SAN MARCOS — When they were last on the field, the Texas State Bobcats lost a gut-wrenching 40-37 overtime game to Northern Iowa in the NCAA Division I-AA semifinals.
Afterward, the Bobcats lost 27 seniors, including nine first-team all-Southland Conference players, the SLC player of the year and the SLC defensive player of the year.
But from last season's success, they may have gained something more important: momentum.
In the offseason, the Bobcats reloaded with talent with 31 newcomers, enough to offset the losses and bolster a returning corps of 11 starters (four on offense, seven on defense) and earn a preseason No. 18 ranking, a bit high according to Bobcats coach David Bailiff.
