I posted this question on siouxsports.com so I will ask it here for everyone...what is the highest pick in the NFL draft from your school?

North Dakota- TE Jim Kleinsasser 44th pick 2nd round in 1999 (Minnesota Vikings). LB Jim LeClair 54th pick 3rd round in 1972 (Cincinnati Bengals).

For the Richmond Spiders I would believe it was Barry Redden, Round 1 - 14th pick of the Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunaltely had the misfortune of playing behind Eric Dickerson. Defensive players used to say stopping him was like stopping a train.

But had injury. Had 4 interceptions in a 1/2 or 5 in a game against UMASS? Something close to that.

Right player but I missed badly on the round. Bill Kollar was actually drafted in the 1st round and 23rd overall in 1974. He played 13 years in the league, almost all with the Bengals.

Interesting side note. He came back to work out with the team during spring ball my freshman year. I saw him do 32 reps at 225# on the bench press, just warming up!! Strongest guy I had ever seen!!

Robert Alford has a chance to be our highest ever drafted player this April. I've heard projections as high as 38 overall with good chance to go in top 75. Of course depends on his Senior Bowl and Combine performances and how the final draft order falls.

The NFL has a good historical listing of draft results that you can filter by school.
For example, here's Western Illinois (http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?abbr=W&collegeName=Western+Illinois&abbrFlag=0&type=school).

Our highest is also our most recent: Jason Williams, was 69th overall (3rd round) in 2009, went to the Cowboys and is currently with the Panthers
The one with the most success though would be: Rodney Harrison, 145th overall (5th round) in 1994, played with the Chargers and Patriots. I won't list his accomplishments...if you pay attention to the NFL, you know who he is.

Joe Muha FB Philadelphia 1943 Round 1 2nd overall pick

He went directly into the Marines out of VMI and fought with an artillery unit on Iwo Jima and later patrolled occupied Japan. On a related topic (probably not worth a separate thread), 5 out of the top 10 undrafted free agents as ranked by The PostGame at Yahoo Sports (http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/list/201107/top-10-nfl-undrafted-free-agents) are from FCS and lower division teams.

Leonard Smith was a first rounder, pick 17 by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1983 for the highest pick from McNeese. I am not sure if we were 1AA or 1A at that point.

Recent high picks include Keith Smith at round three pick 73 in 2004 and Bryan Smith round three pick 70 in 2008, Clearly the key to being drafted from McNeese is to be named Smith.
