Outfielder Shawn Green was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the New York Mets on Tuesday night, giving the NL East leaders one more big bat as they gear up for the postseason.

The Diamondbacks sent the 33-year-old Green and slightly more than $6.3 million to the Mets for Triple-A pitcher Evan MacLane, a 23-year-old left-hander.

Not really. they have a kid they called up last month, he's played great and they wanna get him in the lineup everyday thats why Green became expendable.

As a Mets fan living in AZ I have seen a lot of Green this year. He has gotten old and slow. I don't see him giving the Mets much more than a little depth. What the Mets need is pitching, but then who, besides maybe the Tigers and White Sox, doesn't need pitching.

Another bat??? Mets need another arm, imo.

Their offense is fine, maybe it's struggling a wee bit now, but I wouldn't want to face that lineup in the NL playoffs.

Nope - as Travis said, we have a future All-Star, Carlos Quentin, that is doing better than Green. This saves the Dbacks money, gets rid of an aging vet that is not producing, and lets Quentin play full-time without Green whining.

When the D-Backs first called Quentin up, they stuck him in LF the first night and infuriated longtime franchise player Luis Gonzales. They really are not expected to re-sign Gonzales for next year. Green's move, to me, was purely a salary dump. He is owed big bucks next year (can't remember from when he was with the Dodgers and they salary-dumped him) and maybe the year after that as well, with a club option for a third year. It wasn't a good contract for a team that has to put up with a declining player. It could be a good pickup for the Mets, however, if Green gets into one of those streaks he has a couple of times a year.

DBacks have another guy waiting in the wings named Chris Young, who was the key guy in the Javier Vasquez deal with the White Sox.

Next year's OF will be Eric Byrnes in left, Chris Young in center and Carlos Quentin in right.

It's about time the DBacks got rid of the older, overpaid, underperforming vets. Gonzo's next.

While I agree that the D-Backs need to look hard at moving Gonzo(don't forget he would have to approve a trade), he's not underperforming. The man is a machine when it comes to hitting doubles.
