This is getting ridiculous. What happened to fighting for a job?
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2557069
Arizona State quarterback Sam Keller, who was named the Sun Devils' starting quarterback on Friday only to lose the job to sophomore Rudy Carpenter two days later, has been told by coach Dirk Koetter that he will be released from his scholarship, a source close to Keller said Monday night.
According to the source, the senior is seriously considering transferring to one of three schools, and Nebraska might currently be his top choice. The source said the quarterback could remain at Arizona State, but that the possibility of returning to the Sun Devils team "seems unlikely."

Didn't read the article. But how did he lose the starting job just two days after being named the starter?

Ok I read the article. Interesting words from the head coach.....
The players were involved in one of the most intense position battles in college football during preseason camp. Koetter announced Keller would be the team's starting quarterback Friday, but then abruptly reversed his decision two days later after meeting with the school's athletic director and a group of team leaders.
"It's simple. I made a mistake on the quarterback situation and I'm changing my mind," Koetter said after Sunday's practice.

Let him come to Lincoln, we have a senior QB now, so he could fit right in next year.

Sorry AppGuy04, but I've been following this story since it broke on Sunday. I've been trying to like Dirk Koetter since he arrived in Tempe, but I now and forever, will consider him an f'ing buffoon!
Here's the story: Keller did fight for the job. He was told he won it on Friday. 2 days later, the coach reneged on his word and gave it to Carpenter. His reasoning? Some of the other players told him they wanted Carpenter! Just who the hell is the head coach at Arizona State anyway?
Koetter reneged on his word and stabbed Keller in the back. Of course Sam should leave. The leader of the team screwed him. He's good. He's very very good. He has the potential to be a 1st round pick, but not if he's riding the pines. Most Arizona St. fans agree with Keller's decision to leave. Right now, the general line of thought about Koetter in the Valley is "ASU just gave this idiot an extension????"
Oh, there's more. According to other news reports in the East Valley, Koetter's decision was motivated more by grumblings by Carpenter. He was threatening to transfer out. After him, Koetter has only one more scholarship QB who's a true freshman. Dirk should have designated Keller the starter and it was his job to lose, making it clear Carpenter would see playing time and that the job would be his the next 2 years.

Yup - Koetter is the one that is looking the fool in all of this.

Koetter should have just flipped a coin. Would have been easier.

I don't think any "outside" people (i.e., boosters, alumni, etc...) pressured him. It was Carpenter complaining (loudly) that he was thinking about transferring that prompted this.
By that point, Dirk had f'ed up big time. He had to choose between the lesser of two evils:
1) Keep Keller as the starter and lose a great starter for the next 2 years because Carpenter would leave
2) Pull a douche-bag move and reverse the decision, preserving his QB situation for this season, and possibly the next 2.
Dirk chose Option #2: Douchebag. Of course it never should have gotten to this point in the first place.
