Why Thursday, Colonel?
It started back about 4 or 5 years ago when I was still in the band at Nicholls State. The athletic department decided to hold the first home game of the season on a Thursday night (usually the first or second Thursday of the semester) to try and get more students to attend the game. Since we're a fairly small school (less than 7,000 enrollment) and the VAST majority of students commute, we have had less than desireable student attendance. In the last few years it's picked up some....so maybe it's working.

That school in Baton Rouge will also be playing at home on Saturday of the same weekend and as much as I hate to admit it, many football fans from the Nicholls area will travel the 90 minutes to watch them. Also, the Colonels will have 9 days to get ready for the trip to Lincoln.

True. It does help in that department and also allows fans that wish to attend both home openers the opportunity to do so. But when they started it, we asked the band director what the reasoning was and he was told it was to try to stir up interest in the game since more students would be on campus on a Thursday VS a Saturday. :twocents:
