I think if Wofford had the offense of GSU and GSU had the defense of Wofford, each would have won, but it doesn't work that way -_-

Good game by NDSU. There may be some chinks in the armor when playing option teams, but I think the break will help them patch that up if they have to play SHSU.

As of now, they are my favorite to win it. Jensen IMO is a better runner than passer, and their offense is nothing special but they get the job done when they need to.

There's a reason why you reach the semi's 3 straight years and lose all 3 years. GSU is a tremendously talented team but they do not appear to be a well coached team in terms of doing the little things.

Well, I don't know. They didn't make a single mistake in the first half. Nobody can be perfect. Heck, GSU seemed to be playing at a higher level.

Congratulations to the Bison players and coaches. They made the plays when they needed to and that's what champions do.

That was a great show for the nation and was a showcase for FCS at its finest.

McKinnon was the real deal. After watching this game I see why a lot of GSU fans were confident. I also loved the fact that the eagles learned from last years game and used the pass to perfection. They played a great game on offense, but you have to have discipline and special teams, I'm sure your all aware of this.

The Bison D had a tiger by the tail, but they did enough. Bison offense might as well run the TO also, because they cannot pass, it's not good.

Great season for GSU, and I sure hope you guys don't make the jump. FCS is far better off with your team and fans.

Well, NDSU moved to DI because D2 changed with a bunch of non-competitive scholarship cutters filling the division and great programs leaving.

That's why it will be a terrible blow to us if App and GSU leave the FCS. The FCS is pretty damn good right now, there haven't been any scholarship cuts, and there haven't been any ridiculous D2-style rule changes that reward teams in weak conferences.

With 2 great teams, it often comes down to mistakes. NDSU had a big one roughing the punter in the end zone that prevented the Bison from getting the ball at the GSU 40.

GSU was the best team we played all year and that game could have gone either way. This was probably the most exciting football game ever played at the Fargodome or Dacotah Field.

I thought we were ready to play but it came down to dumb penalites, a critical fumble in the early 2nd half and once again our defense not being able to stop an opponent with the game on the line.

It would have been nice to have hosted a semi one of these past 3 years but no such luck. After a little reflection most GSU fans will realize this has been a very good last 3 years. NDSU I believe is the best team in FCS -- at least the last 2 years--- and it is no disgrace to lose to them in Fargo. Just looked at the final stats: GSU outgained NDSU 430-276 and won the time of possession by 7 minutes. Turnovers, penalties and kicking were the difference.

Was at the game.

GSU was the best team we've played in the last 2 years. HFA was definitely the difference. They got a little something every drive. We either struggled to 3 and out, or drove down and scored.

Our defense is completely beat up after the last 2 weeks. I was very impressed with GSU's resilience throughout the game, it just got away from them in the end. Our defense make the key stops when they needed to give the offense a chance. I don't think GSU handled our crowd noise very well, as false starts killed some of their drives.

I thought it was super cool to see GSU team salute their fanbase after the game. A lot of character in a moment where they are probably completely pissed, brokenhearted, beat up, emotionally spent, losing their season on a game they very well easily could have won.

Big props to GSU. Great team.

But we're dealing in assumptions here. That's my biggest problem. Just because there are examples of schools that have moved up and failed means that ASU and GSU shouldn't try?

Seriously, if the only thing that matters is winning why not drop to D2 and win every year? Mt. Union clearly doesn't belong in D3 but they stick around to win over and over and over again. They get their yearly 45 seconds of coverage on Sportscenter and start again the next year.

It's an assumption but its realistic.

FBS doesn't guarantee you more fans. FBS doesn't actually guarantee you more exposure. Moving to lower tier FBS conferences is almost a lateral move, except you'll get paid twice as much to get spanked by an ACC or Big 10 team, and you miss out on those FBS transfers.

You already fill up KBS, but do you really think you're going to acquire more fans that do not have ties to app state? It might help enrollment, but is the campus feasibly prepared for that? When App State finishes under .500 for multiple years, will the shine begin to fade? Those are serious questions to ask.

There is an over saturation of FBS teams, and when the power teams split and form a new division, which will happen, what will you have gained?

TheRevSFA
December 14th, 2012, 11:26 PM
Not to mention, we could kick the sh** out of those three teams already. I have no idea how things will work out for us but I can't imagine we'd start getting worse recruits if we moved up.

Can you? You couldn't beat ISUr at home in December...

TheRevSFA

My point is: look at all of the schools that have moved up in the past 20 years and see who has truly benefitted from it. Don't assume that moving up is a magical yellow brick road to better recruits and great bowl games, because its not.

Good luck Appy, and that's not meant condescendingly. If you get to jump, good luck

We lost by 1 in OT on a blocked PAT. ISUr beat one of the teams you mentioned (EMU) by 17 at their place in a game that was nowhere near as close as the final score so, in my opinion, yes. It would take a step back for our on-field product to be on par with EMU, WMU or FAU.

This is the logic I don't understand and I really do not mean this to you specifically. So many people say that it is a lateral move but then say they expect us to go .500 or worse. It can't be both.

... sorry for the derail. Congrats to GSU and NDSU, one hell of a game! Hate that one of y'all had to lose.

It's lateral in terms of prestige, and national awafeness, well, except you get to be on ncaa football without using team builder....oh wait sorry South Alabama

I sit right next to the entrance of the other teams locker room. I have never seen our section give the opposing team a standing ovation when they went to the locker room as a team.

I wasn't there, and obviously the coverage didn't show this, but I'll take your word for it and that is an extremely classy move by your fans. Hats off to NDSU coaches and players. What a game. I'm pretty sure it took 3 years off of my life. Congrats on a hard fought victory and good luck in Frisco.

I'll miss the passion and everything else about the FCS playoffs, but I understand the move as far as the interests of the University. As many have said, we have accomplished everything we can at this level, and have nowhere to go but up. Sad to see us potentially leaving, but optimistic as to what it will do for our university as a whole.

You can now have a home and home with Temple. Your kids will love playing big time football in front of 10k people at the Linc.

Was also at the game and took part in the standing ovation for GSU. The entire NW corner of the dome, probably 7 sections or so, gave GSU players and coaches a standing ovation as they left the field. They deserved every second of it. Amazing game. Two fantastic programs.

Extremely classy move. As much banter has been exchanged this week between the two fan bases, you guys have a great team and great fans. We are very similar in that regard. Best of luck to you in Frisco and if this is our last year in FCS, best of luck to you in the FCS. You guys are building a dynasty and I hope you continue to do so. I'll always believe that GSU has the best fans in the world, but you guys are a close second for sure!

That was a great football game, I was just a fan and I feel like I just got done playing a game. It was very draining, the game had so many ups and downs. I had feeling that the coaches would put the ball in Brock's hands and I am so glad he came through for us. Both teams left everything they had on the field, I have all the respect in the world for GSU they gave our defense everything it could handle and more. The GSU QB was the real deal, huge difference between him and Jaybo. Congrats on a great season GSU, I hope you stick around for one more year but if you leave good luck.

To the GaSo fans and team:

What an amazing game that both teams provided for us as fans. Your coaches planned quite will and the players left everything on the field tonight. Regardless of the "bar stool bravado" that we espouse before the game on this thread, I've had great respect for the 6-time NC of FCS football. Personally, I hope that you will stay in the SoCon for a while so that I may see you play at Wofford** or App* soon and experience what is great football in the SoCon. Congratulations on 3 semifinals in a row...it is nothing to hang your heads about. GaSo will continue to shine as one of the beacons of FCS football both for their history and for years to come.

Fellow alumni: "Oh"
Me: "Otherwise I'd still be in MN with Bison season tickets."
