I have a photo of my Grandmother from around 1938 and she is standing next to her airplane shortly after receiving her pilots license. The plane's tail has:

printed upon it. Is there a significance to the NC? I know she lived in many different states DC/CA/LA/WI/MN/ND/Panama. I am not aware of her ever living in North Carolina. Is the NC indicative of a State registration?
