After one of the most successful basketball seasons in school history for both its men’s and women’s teams, Southern released its 2006-07 basketball schedules.

The women’s team is coming off of a solid 20-11 season and were crowned co-regular season SWAC champions, while winning the SWAC tournament and advancing to the NCAA tournament for the third time in Sandy Pugh’s tenure.

Pugh’s team will travel to OklahomaState, Oral Roberts and the University of Texas in November.

The women will pair with the men for a doubleheader at NorthwesternState before hosting their only home game of the first semester on Dec. 9 against South Alabama.

The Jaguars will round out pre-conference play with a trip to Lexington, Ky. to take on Kentucky.

The Southern men, under second year coach Rob Spivery, will have another challenging pre-conference schedule, including trips to Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Missouri and defending national champion Florida.

Spivery’s Jaguars went 19-13 in his first season, and won the SWAC’s regular season and tournament titles.

The Jaguars’ home opener will be on Dec. 4 against Stephen F. Austin. Southern will also host Southeastern Louisiana and Louisiana Tech during the first semester.

Glad to see a SWAC school actually playing a home non-conference game or few against Div I foes...there's actually been more SLC/SWAC games scheduled this year on the mens' hardwood. The SLC had the advantage last year on the SWAC, we'll see what this year brings.

SFA is looked as having a solid squad, even picked by ESPN.com to win the SLC (though most fans know A&M-CC and SHSU should be), so that will be a good matchup against Southern. SELA has Southern and Jackson State. SHSU has Alcorn St on the slate after beating the Braves last year. Newcomer UCA has a home-and-home with Mississippi Valley State. UT-Arlington goes to Texas Southern. Lamar has Prairie View A&M on the docket.

Best of luck to the SWAC...when are you folks getting into Bracketbusters? That'd give you some more quality OOC games against Div I foes at home...
