Yea, it's that time of the year when there's nothing to talk about so I'm going to make a post with a bunch of pictures. Here's the timeline of the LU Turf Project...with other crap thrown in.

Rip it out:

Ripping's almost done:
http://libertyflames.com/wwwadmin/globals/templates/1912/images/news_main/FOC-June22-Picture1-large.jpg

And on the third day, the turf was torn out, and it was good:

The gravel going in:

Gravel with a design:

During this time, everyone was wondering where the piss the turf was. The last picture was taken on July 17.

As of August 8th, there was still no turf to be seen.

On August 9th, everyone thought the turf would arrive.

But it did not.

August 11th comes, and everyone once again feels that it should begin going in that morning.

But it did not.

The athletic director had already set up a plane to go get the turf from Georgia if it didn't arrive soon.

5pm on August 11th, the turf arrives. Well, part of it.

The bad news was the second truck broke down and it had to stuff to start putting the turf in. The wait continued.

The second truck fixed its broken part and arrived on Saturday, August 12th.

On Sunday, yes, Sunday, people worked at Liberty. And it was good.

As of Monday, August 15th, 3/4 of the field was down.

Earlier today, the entire field was down:

The rubber and everything was ready to go in:

While all of this was going on, the numbers and other things on the field were being cut out so the white markers could go on the field:

That is all we have for now. I hope you enjoyed the journey.

It at least wasted five minutes that you would've been killing time with something else. We all know you're not really working.

Hey, I liked it!

Remember to post more pictures once they get all the numbers, logos and enzones completed. Any idea how much the bill was?

$750k or somewhere around there. It's the top of the line stuff.

Yeah I love the stuff. I get really jealous of all the other schools installing the turf. I think it looks sharp as hell, plays GREAT and feels much better than astro-turf. I just wish we could get the funding at Nicholls State to install an artificial field. Our grass (or "Bayou Bermuda" as it dubbed by the athletic department) is terrible and it rains down here practically the whole first half of the season creating a mudpit by October. :(

I think it'll be the norm in the next 5-10 years for most school to have the stuff. The reason ours took so long to get was because so many teams ordered it at the same exact time that it got backed up.

Here's the latest picture:

Love the pictures. Having spent a ton of time for work in the Lynchburg area I'm glad to see Liberty spending money to replace that old rug. Hopefully the program can continue to improve. In seasons with 12 games I'd really like to get Liberty on UR's schedule.

To get attention you could have posted:

"Best field ever", "Better than JMU", "Liberty's new field ensures playoff game", etc.

Crazy posts get responses. Claim to be better than JMU and you'd get even more :smiley_wi

(I kid because I love)

I believe we have Liberty on our schedule from 2008-2011 (4 straight years 2 home-for-home series in a row). Glad to hear that both JMU and Liberty will have 1st class playing fields! Looking forward to the matchups in the future. Sorry Ticks, looks like room is shrinking to get the Flames on your schedule. :p

Oh, THAT "LU"...At first I was shocked Ihadn't heard about any kind of new field at Goodman. When I saw the pics--obviously not Goodman. Congrats on the new digs. We 'dug 'em' two years ago. You get to see Goodman next year..;)

I really think Liberty could have been one of the nicest campuses in the state if they had just used any sense of architecture and layout when they build most of the buildings and the grounds.

SuperJon

Explain that one to me.

He's referring to the early buildings on campus that were extremely utilitarian and haphazard. The new edifices on campus have a more regionally appropriate appearance and we hope to eventually bulldoze some of the horrendously built early structures at some point.

And the new football ops center you see in the endzone is hopefully going to be finished in the next couple of weeks. It not only has what you see above ground but also another full floor for football int he basement. SJ will likely hook you guys up with those pics once it is completed.

I don't believe many of our I-AA brethren have any idea the kind of money we are pumping into our football program right now. Hopefully it will be made manifest with victories this fall.

Wait, so money equals victory?

It is evidence of commitment to the program on the school's behalf. I would think a JMU fan would understand that more than most considering the Taj Majal to the football program you guys built the past few years.

BTW that is our year-old hockey rink in the top right corner of the top picture in SJ's most recent update. The football ops center in the endzone will be partially completed for the football season and be finished by the start of the season.

I care. Looks great, thanks for the pics. My wife graduated from LU and we were back on campus a few weeks ago. We will probably make a few trips up for a game.
