While I hate to see an icon in Yankee Stadium get flattened it will be nice to see a new Yankee Stadium to hang more World Championship Banners.

It's supposed to be right by today's Yankee Stadium, right?

Supposedly across the street.

Sucks, because I wanted to see a game in Yankees stadium. Guess that won't happen. Of course, I've never been to New York, either.

And while the city of New York rots, the politicians are going to build a $1 Billion stadium for George Steinbrenner, to make this rich jerk more money. This stinks

The stadium won't be done before 2009, at the earliest, so you still have time to make a pilgrimmage.

Not so fast my friend :nono:
Steinbrenner's paying for the whole stadium himself, right across the street from "The House that Ruth Built". The City and State will be building a parking area and train stop as part of a larger plan to revitalize that part of the Bronx.
The new stadium is scheduled to open in 2009 :hurray:

That's news to me. Steinbrenner was trying for years to get the City of New York to pay for it. I'm surprised Bud Selig didn't suspend George for not holding a gun to New York's head. (And even if he is paying for it, George is still a jerk).

Bloomberg and Pataki nixed Rudy G.'s pre - 9/11 plan to have NYC build stadia for the Mets and Yankees, though the City will make some roadway and infrastructure improvement for about half a billion in the Bronx and Queens.

Who's paying for the Mets new stadium also opening in 2009?

Instead of "the monuments" in center field, the new place will probably have placards with corporate naming rights.

Dunno, they may have to resort to just hanging those American League East Division banners - 2000 is just getting further and further away since the last time the Yanks won a title and this year's team doesn't look like they can break that string of October disappointments. But like I said, at least they'll win the division (well, probably).
