I doubt it. My ballot was but I'm pretty sure they accepted them all they way up until noon ET today so it could've influenced voters who didn't submit their ballots that early.

I think the interesting things to note in this poll are just as expected. First, Villanova jumped from #17 to #11 which was pretty healthy for a win over an unranked team, while Towson went only from #20 to #17. More interesting was that Towson was right behind SDSU last week and didn't pass them despite the 4 TD win over the #7 team in the country. Seems like the selections probably had a little bit of influence on the voting.

Not all spots are equal however. There's a big drop from 10 to 11 and a big drop from 17 to 18. As far as points go Towson is closer to #12 than they are to #18, they just came up a few (poll) points short of doing some serious moving like Villanova did.

About 50 of the 68 ballots were in prior to the selection. I could figure it up with only those votes before the selection later if you'd like to see those as well just for comparison?

We shut it off last year prior to selections and just didn't this year because I didn't think about it since we were prepping for our Wedge Selection Sunday show.

Same here. UNH went down a good amount and Richmond, Towson etc. jumped up quite a bit as well as EIU dropping a little and EKU going up the chart if I remember right. I did not put Colgate in and left Lehigh in the 20-25 range. My thoughts on where the teams ranked had nothing to do with what the committee has to do.

You are correct, had Towson or Lehigh made the field, the AGS experts that wanted the field to reflect their polls would have voted them higher. Kinda like tooting your own horn after the fact :(

I think Nova shooting up the AGS rankings was influenced by the fact they won the autobid. I think if ODU had lost vs JMU and we had to resort to Sargain Ratings, Richmond/Towson/JMU might of been the team who shot up the rankings depending on the outcome.

I think you took me wrong there slick. I was telling you that the two subjects you chose went directly against what you said. I was correcting you.

My team is rarely out of the playoffs and I really don't sweat it too much to be honest. We've had as much or good fortune as anyone out there when it comes to playoff runs and so forth so it's pretty easy to handle actually.

You may not feel as blessed however. It's understandable.

We've gotten almost everything right. Check.

Why would ANYONE vote New Hampshire ahead of Towson after Saturday? That's my major beef with the AGS poll this week.

I don't get it either. In mine Towson was well ahead of UNH. In fact Richmond & Villanova were ahead of them as well. I haven't had UNH much higher than the 15 mark this season though cuz they just don't have the defense like they have in years past.

Mr. C
November 19th, 2012, 10:24 PM
UNH has had bad defenses more years than not during their playoff run, but not this bad. Towson has put 120 points on them and Terrance West has run for almost 500 yards in the past two years. I've had them ranked more towards the 20-range most of the year. I'm not sold on Richmond, either, which lost by four (with a disputed TD that was taken away from UR) to UNH, but did managed to beat Villanova. In my mind, Towson and Villanova are the two most talented teams in that league.

Pretty sure I didn't. I don't see teams losing to an FBS squad as an immediate reason to drop them unless said FBS squad was a doormat at the FBS level and the FCS team playing them got smoked.

I should say also that last year I took the year off from the poll but had participated in previous years. I like to think I'm getting better at putting together a good ballot however it's a learning process. When I say learning I'm referring to learning more about other conferences and it's teams. Putting forth some effort to study scores/stats and watch games that I can watch either online or on television. I still have a ways to go but I plan on participating next year and hopefully becoming a more educated FCS football fan.
