For those of you not from the Midwest, John had 489 career victories in his 64 seasons as a head coach at the college level – the last 60 at St. John’s.
Going to a game at St. John's, a D3 school, was amazing. The tradition just hung in the air.
I wonder if Mike Grant, Bud's son who coaches at Eden Prairie HS, will get a call. He went to school there, and they need someone to restart the program. St. Thomas is leaving them in the dust.

Wow, I thought he would stay for 500 at least.
Have a great retirement.

I was going to post this also. Congratulations and I hope he enjoys his retirement.

Jim Smith, the basketball coach at St. John's, is starting his 49th year there. Put that together with Gag's 60 years and you have a record at one school that no one will ever break.

Talk about job security.
I read an article about Gagliardi recently, and he is in poor health so this makes sense. Glad that he actually stepped down on his own rather than having to be forced out.

I thought that he might die on the sidelines and be propped up like El Cid. Better to go out now.
