That's a pretty formidable line. And given that they are coached by the best OL coach in the country (at the very least the league), Bob Heffner...I have no doubt they will be dominant!

I agree with you on moving Flowers. Shifting him to LT makes all the sense in the world. Good athlete, great feet and can get down field and block. David Ward and Larry Brewer are two outstanding true freshmen who will be cornerstones for our OL for years to come. We were fortunate to get them both.

I agree it depends on what type of offense you run. If you're a finesse, running team that likes to run a lot counter, zone, or option, chances are you want linemen athletic enough to make difficult blocks. You'll take 'em big or small, just as long as they can execute. If your a power running team or a predominantly passing team, chances are you want big linemen that can either mash people at the point of attack or pass block. The Denver Broncos had one of the best lines in NFL history there for about three or four years and very few of them weighed 300 pounds. So did the Dallas Cowboys and there line averaged 330 plus. There's always more than one way to skin a cat.

Maybe the smallest line mentioned here at an average of 280 lbs., but ASU only lost one lineman from last year's squad who produced a 1400 yard rusher and only allowed 10 sacks (15 games), yeah I know a little bit of that has to do with Richie ;) . Note three of them are preseason All-SoCon and two are preseason All-Americans.

Kivett and Bell could become one of the best tackle combos in I-AA this season. Thornburg is th ewildcard on the Furman O-Line he was considered the best lineman of the class that included All-Americans Stewart and Covington, the problem is Thornburg has been hurt. Also look out for Bama product Tyler Haynes, Ole Miss farked up his scholarship good for Furman, this kid plays with attitude, tuff and mean and backs it up already 445 bench press.

ASU's lines are nothing to write home about in terms of size, but they did their job well in all but a couple games last year with most returning. Vs Lafayette, outmanned size-wise, they held Lafayette out of the backfield most of the night and opening holes ffor Kevin Richardson to pick up 171 yds rushing. The defense for App picked up 4 sacks.
Huge lines are nice but not always a necessity in I-AA.

ASU's O-line only has one 300 pounder and he is only 300 even. Kerry Brown 6'6" 300 lb LG.
The D-line's largest player is Daniel Orlebar 6'3" 295.

This is true, To say I'm not worried about our line is an understatement. Most of these guys were recruited to run the trip-O. I know the transition to a spread offense is not going to be easy. There a good line, somewhat undersized in order to chase down LB's, etc. It will take some time to "re-gel" and get the terminology and tech skills. I forsee alot of penalties early on. This is the only thing that worries me. We have ridiculous atheletes on the O-side of the ball and coach Van Gorder will have the D salty and mean...Our QB Clark seems to be coming along very nicely, fierce competitior and intense. Going to be an interesting year.

You'll find those signed with some big I-A program.

App and Furman were outweighed and many occasions last year and both made it to and met in the semi-final game.
I'll take whatever works in I-AA. Now vs NC State on Sept 2, I might have other preferences.
