I know this has been discussed before on this board, but it has come up again at SHSU and I'm trying to remember what everyone had said about it. At SHSU, our basketball coach is in the mix for the head coaching job at UTEP, which as we all know, is a pretty solid job which has led coaches to even more high profile jobs in recent years.

Anyhow, our AD was quoted on a web site out of the El Paso media with the following:

Sam Houston State head coach Bob Marlin was thought to be a candidate on Stull's "short-list," however, Sam Houston Athletic Director Bobby Williams seemed unsure in a phone conversation today. "I haven't talked to Bob in 2 days, but we have the kind of relationship where he'd tell me if he was interviewing somewhere," said Williams this afternoon over the phone. "He's not under contract though. Coach Stull has not contacted me to ask if he could officially talk to Bob, but because he's(Marlin) not under contract, he wouldn't have to."

So, what was the whole deal about coaches not having contracts? Didn't our friends in Montana discuss this at length due to their recent success in football and both basketballs? Wasn't this an issue at Georgia Southern and maybe even McNeese? Can someone help me out here, so I can explain it to the Kat faithful?
