Oh no. I know what's going on in LA.
I said a surprise announcement. All that "Vote Yes to FBS" money flowing into Stinkboro allowed them to outbid the Lakers for D'Antoni.
I'll also add that NBA coach to FCS AD is a seamless transition.

He's been an Assistant AD at Kent State, Arizona State, Rutgers, and Wake Forest. What screams awful about that resume?
He's led a lot of fundraising and ticket sales initiatives. That's a lot of what we need right now. And guess what, he's been successful in those ventures.

Scott Farmer was an automatic candidate in our fans' eyes due to his connections and the fact he's one of us. I wouldn't have been satisfied with a candidate that was less impressive than him. I think we've done well even though we didn't get Farmer.

Dude has worked in the Pac-12, Big East, and ACC. That's BCS level. He was at Kent State because their new AD there WANTED him to come work there. Stands to reason that means he'd done some good work somewhere. Look at his body of work, not just the current school he's at.

If that's the case, your expectations are unreasonable. Georgia Southern can only pay an AD so much so we were definitely looking at an Assistant AD. Over 50 applicants were screened.
As for the "Kent freaking State" comments, I'm sure more people have heard of them than Georgia freaking Southern.

GSU isn't going to the SEC or ACC. Ever. What you need is someone with experience at promoting a mid-major FBS team.

The wife and I came home in quiet expectation of the broadcast that would decide the future of Eagle athletics... heard it and sat silently, with jaws dropped saying to each other: WHO... FROM WHERE?!?!
I'm probably way off base... as usual.
But, DAMN... THE greatest FCS program of all time, and it's fans... should expect more. Especially, one in the center of THE BIGGEST recruiting area in the country (If Old Dom can blow up in a large, but secondary, recruiting area and move up... SH--!).

I don't understand why you are placing so much emphasis on who his current employer is and pretty much ignoring the rest of his body of work. He appears to have accomplished a lot for a guy that's 41 years old, and to me that indicates that he'll probably bring a lot of energy to the position.

I think there is an issue with a lot of fans (and specifically GSU) only focusing on the Football side of the Athletics department when it comes to the AD. I personally am more excited to hear what he will do to step-up the programs for Basketball, soccer, etc. Yes I understand, like a lot of schools, that football is the revenue for most of the sports, but in order to be successful in FBS, we need to be better all around.

This is one of the main "pros" of reclassifying to FBS. Not only does football retain some Georgia players currently signing with Middle Tenn, Western Ky, Troy, Southern Miss, UAB, etc., but there are baseball, basketball, and olympic athletes who see FCS conferences as below D1. FCS fans understand the differences, but the general public sees D2 = FCS.

Kent State's football team is 9-1 and #25 in the current AP Poll, their baseball team just went to Omaha and their men's basketball program has won 20+ games each of the past three years. That sure seems like a well run athletic department to me. Get a grip.

In his press conference he noted that at Kent State they didn't really have a football culture like we do, so in order to get some national notice of the athletics programs they put emphasis in improving the Olympic sports to gain that attention. It seems like he understands the importance of having those other sports be as good and as well known nationally as possible as well. I think we made a wise choice.
