Is EWU's Vernon Adams a lock to win it?
He ranks eighth in FCS in passing efficiency (155.05), and is the only freshman in the top 18 of the rankings. In seven games as a starter and one as a sub, he has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 1,362 yards, 14 touchdowns and six interceptions.

He is having a great season, but not a lock by any means. There are lots of guys putting up great numbers.
My homer pick would have to be Sean Price:
58 catches
914 yards
8 TD’s
Averaging 114 a game
Not bad for a guy who missed 2 games this season

Possibly.
The only freshman that I can think of in the MVFC that could challenge him would be QB Sawyer Kollmorgen out of UNI. 152-264 (57.6%), 2027 yards, 18 TDs, 7 INTs, 139.3 efficiency rating.

Putting up 231 yards on the road at Georgia Southern should put him firmly in the mix.

From GoASU:
Price is just 13 catches and 159 yards short of the NCAA Division I FCS freshman records of 71 receptions (set by Cal St. Northridge’s Drew Amerson in 1999) and 1,073 receiving yards (set by Marshall’s Randy Moss in 1996).
Don't forget he had to sit 2 games for a suspension as well.

Thanks... this is what I was looking for, and didn't want to do all the leg work. :D

He has pretty crazy numbers. Just curious, what was the suspension for? Are off-field problems taken into consideration in deciding who wins the Jerry Rice Award?

It didnt happen this year, it happened just after last season (he's a RS freshman,) so Jerry Moore carried the punishment over. No idea what it was, some team rule, another of our players was suspeneded 2 games with him.

You're probably right that Kollmorgen is the only freshman from the MVFC to have a real chance at the Jerry Rice Award, but it wouldn't surprise me if got beat out for Freshman of the Year in his own conference by SDSU's freshman linebacker T.J. Lally.
Lally has won 4 Valley "Newcomer of the Week" awards already this season and has a defensive player of the week award as well.
Here is his stat line thru 9 games:
75 tackles; 7 TFL, 6 Sacks, 2 INTs, 2 FF, 1 Fumble Recovery
I don't think a defensive player will get serious consideration for the Rice Award, but have to give a shout out to Mr. Lally for having a great freshman year and being a huge part of the Jacks defense this year.

Real homer here, but I would think John Robertson has to be in the Top 5 contenders. He's all but wrapped up CAA rookie of the year, winning it in 5 of his 8 starts. Here are his numbers
Passing:
John Robertson 9 games, 114-187 (61.0%), 1496 yds, 12 TDs, 5 INTs, 166.2 yds per game, 143.99 efficiency
Rushing
John Robertson: 9 games, 136/741yds, 5.4ypc, 10 TD, 82.3 yds per game
