OK, I got to thinking about how many of the I-AA schools are near major cities and others are out in the middle of nowhere. So here's the question:

If you could take a visiting fan (say an AGS member) anywhere within 50 miles of your school (as the crow flies), where would you take them?

First to Cal Poly Alex Spanos/Mustang Stadium. Then to Hearst Castle, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, Port San Luis, Diablo Canyon.

50 miles shouldn't count in MT. Nothing is within 50 miles of anything. So I'll expand it to 100, and I would take you to Yellowstone. ;)

If it's night life, forget about it. Except for Utica, Rome and Syracuse, we are pretty much in the sticks at Colgate.

Oh let's see. The beach at wide dunes, or sullivans island. Fort Sumter,
USS Yorktown, the battery. Charlestown Landing. And of course, the Charleston night life

well 15mins away north of UC Davis you have California's capital, Sacramento. Also the famous Napa valley is just south of UC Davis....and you cannot forget about the San Francisco Bay Area which is south, down I-80 an easy drive to see where i grew up.

30 miles west of campus is Lake Berryessa and Cold Canyon Reserve, run by the University. There's a beautiful 5.5 mile loop hike up the canyon and onto a ridge overlooking the lake and miles and miles in all directions.

Year-round springs provide watering areas for many wildlife species, such as bear, mountain lion, deer, ringtail, and turkey.

Looks great!!! What about the theming as you walk around the park? I also heard that it is nestled quite well into the surrounding landscape with lush forest all around the park.

As cities go...Richmond has it's own bar scene which can be entertaining on Thursday nights, but on the weekend you'd probably want to head to Lexington....though I think it would be worth the 90 minute drives to Louisville and/or Cincinnati instead.

Plus there's the natural stuff too. Near Corbin Kentucky (about an hour drive) there is now the worlds only Moonbow...which appears at night. There used to be too, but the other one (I think in Africa) was destroyed. It's pretty cool if you've never seen anything like that before.

Since we're talking football, I'd say a beautiful ride up into the Poconos to the quaint town of Jim Thorpe (formerly Mauch Chunk) where the legendary football player is buried. They have a nice monument and displays around the gravesite depicting the various times of his life.
Right within the Valley, itself, though is the National Canal Museum and the Crayola Factory in downtown Easton--together with a canal boat ride on the Lehigh. In Bethlehem, aside from my alma mater, is the home of the largest jelly bean manufacturer, and in nearby Nazareth is the home of Martin Guitars--and they give tours.:nod:

Done the tour. The JD Martin guitars are the best acoustic guitars in the world. The Nazareth facility does not just make the guitars they maintain the guitars of the best musicians. Great stories from the Nazareth Luthiers,!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with the assessment on the beautiful Furman campus (one of my favorite places to watch a game, particularly when the leaves are turning in October).

From Boone, I'd take them on a hike to lovely Linville Falls. Or maybe just bring them to my house in the forest about 30 minutes from town. I've got a nice creek in the backyard, wildlife everywhere around the house. It's a beautiful place to live and work.

You could do that (I don't know why you would want to) or you could go to historic downtown Savannah. (Hilton Head is barely out of the 50 mile limit, otherwise I'd say HH).
