The Southeastern Louisiana University football team did more after 4 p.m. Sunday than most people do all day.

From the time the team reported at 4 p.m., second-year head coach Dennis Roland efficiently moved his team through two meetings, physicals and equipment check-in before a two-hour evening practice session at 8:30 p.m. under the lights of Strawberry Stadium.

LIONS BATTLE HEAT, HUMIDITY IN MORNING PRACTICE
Posted by dvolz on August 7, 2006, 1:43 pm.

HAMMOND - After going through its first workout Sunday evening, Southeastern Louisiana returned to the practice field Monday morning battling the infamous south Louisiana heat and humidity for nearly three hours in shorts and helmets.

The Lions, who open the season Aug. 31 at New Mexico State, produced an effective workout despite the oppressive humidity that was listed at 86 percent at the beginning of the session.

“We had a very good and crisp workout today,” Southeastern head coach Dennis Roland said. “Everyone did a good job of coming back after last night’s practice and we grew a little bit more as a football team.

SOUTHEASTERN PRACTICE REPORT #3 – RECEIVING ATTENTION
Posted by dvolz on August 8, 2006, 4:42 pm.

HAMMOND - With the loss of the most prolific quartet of receivers in school history to graduation following the 2005 season, it would only go to reason that the Southeastern receiving corps would be in for a marked drop off in 2006. But with several talented letter-winners eager to accept more demanding roles teaming with several highly touted newcomers, head coach Dennis Roland has a loaded arsenal at his disposal for the upcoming season.

So far, so good with the Lions. The defense, under former SHSU defensive coordinator Mike Lucas, is really flying to the ball and the running game will have its best depth since bringing back football.

As for the freshmen receivers, they look physically like seniors and have the potential to be better than our group we had last year ... as expected with a pass heavy offense, we're very deep there with 10-12 guys who can see action.
