How can you be so sure that Richmond at 5-3 is a horrible team? In 2008, Richmond had just lost to JMU to drop top 4-3, and it was looking rough. They then reeled off 9 straight victories to win the national title. Do not be too quick judge teams.

I don't understand how people think SUU's win was the most significant. What does winning that game do for SUU? I understand the other end of it for EWU being a significant loss. I had Sac State as the most significant, as they were borderline playoff team, and now stand a chance of making the playoffs if they win their next two as well, which would put them at 8-3 with a FBS win.

Really? No poll out there last year had SHSU getting votes and being ranked before AGS did that I can remember and the fact that they didn't jump up means that a lot of people don't just slot vote and move things around because a team ahead lost. It means they probably think about and come up with their own conclusion as to whether or not the 13 above them are better and would beat them on a neutral field.

You think South Dakota State is a horrible team?xcrazyx
Sorry I'm late to the party, but here's the thing - Lakes assumes that any team he doesn't recognize by name recognition at the drop of a hat (Montana, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, basically schools that have some FCS history and a bit of national recognition) are totally garbage programs that indicate that NDSU is swimming in the gutter of D-I football. His bag is that there are basically ten or so "good" programs in the FCS and that everybody else is basically playing D-II ball. Considering ESPN airtime is more important to him than winning the championship was (last year's Lehigh game was "must win" for the sake of getting on TV, go figure a playoff game being must-win, right?), you can start to get an idea of where his frame of mind lies.
I had a similar situation a few weeks ago when discussing NDSU and the FCS with a client at work. Guy seemed pretty knowledgeable about NDSU, but said he didn't follow anyone in the FCS because it's cupcake football where, as he put it, one good player basically guarantees a national championship (his lone resource being Armanti Edwards). I countered saying that about eight dudes from the '08 NDSU team got shots in the NFL and we went 6-5, which totally blew his mind. I mentioned how App State had a guy drafted in the second round last year and was a one-and-done in the playoffs, and he asked how that could happen when there's such a good player on the team. My response was, in a nutshell, that he was underselling the parity in the subdivision and moreover that football isn't a game that's won by one player.
Lakes, you're my boy, but your perception of the FCS is totally whack.

This is how it should be.
But lots of voters base their votes on wins and losses only. This is why Rev thinks UCA should be ranked higher than SHSU.
Sam is leagues above even UCA the way they are playing right now.
UCA Bear and most people understand that AGS happens and take that into account when doing their vote. The AGS poll IMO is the most accurate but as shown above not perfect.

Of course NDSU is beatable but the only games we have looked beatable is when we make mistakes which Jenson rarely ever does. If it wasn't for him having a terrible game against Ind. St. we would be undefeated still but i like having a loss under the belt. I feel it takes more pressure off. Our defense is still dominating games.

You think TSN or the coaches poll is more accurate? UCA should be ahead of you in the polls since they beat you. Just sayin
Then you should be ahead of them in polls and Indiana State should be ahead of NDSU. Just sayin.
The same teams Sam has blown-out, UCA has struggled with.

UCA hasn't struggled with teams..they've struggled with themselves. Big difference. No run game for UCA and a porous defense. Two comeback victories against Sam and McNeese. One near comeback on 3 drives against SFA in a monsoon. Nope the Bears opponents aren't causing the struggle...it's the team itself. But on the bright side, they NEVER give up. Sam is expected this year to blow teams out. UCA lost ALOT of talent, especially at QB and on defense, to even be in this picture. Now imagine UCA getting a run game and solidifying their defense. what ifs...what ifs...xlolx

If there is only one first place vote for a team and it is not a homer vote it is counted and given the full weight but single first place votes are not listed as it takes at least two. There was one other team receiving a #1 vote as well.
I'm covering for agspoll for the time being and I do not remember the specifics but this was discussed a few weeks back on one of the threads so if interested maybe look back through them as I'm not gonna be a good source for the "why?" question that is coming next...

Thanks for the explanation. I thought, though, from what I read on some of the threads that i was not the only one who voted for the Bobcats. No big deal from my perspective as NDSU got my #2 and GSU #3. They're all interchangeable to me right now.

Believe me I'm in no way insulting the Bears (or the Jacks for that matter), if you guys leave the conference it will be nearly unwatchable for me. But I'm just saying Sam has looked sharper against common opponents than UCA. I always get a little cynical about the AGS poll because the SLC teams are always lower than most of the other polls.
ex. How is SFA not in the top 40 but UNC, UNI & Southern Utah are? SFA would spank these teams.

Dude..I don't even think we'd spank those teams...all they'd have to do is put 3 players next to a receiver and our QB would just give them the ball :D

Stony Brook has an FBS win, but it was over an Army team that would be in the 40s in FCS (according to Massey).

I think Wofford is a little high at #5. If we played the second half like the first half in our game last Saturday against The Citadel, a #5 ranking would be spot on. However, we had penalties, mistakes, and generalized lethargy in the second half. The defense bailed us out twice in the last few minutes. We need whole game performances against Samford and Chattanooga. If not, we'll be 7-3 going into the South Carolina game.

no. The arrogant ayers went for it on 4th down again when the situation didn't call for it and the BEAR JEW got absolutely stuffed in the backfield. it wasn't lethargy that didn't allow you to cross midfield in the second half that was The Citadel defense that caused it.

And that's part of my point, with the exception of CCU nobody in the Big South has a decent SOS. Lehigh and SBU both played CCSU; SBU had a larger point spread, but it was at home; while Lehigh traveled to Connecticut. The Colgate game is going to tell us a lot about both teams.
