Western Carolina true freshman quarterback Troy Mitchell ignited a second half charge for the Catamounts on Saturday afternoon, but the sluggish start against 15th-ranked Appalachian State was too much to overcome as the Mountaineers held on for the 38-27 victory and retained possession of the "Old Mountain Jug" for the eighth-straight season.
