I wonder what the new nickname and colors will be?

The Islanders' team name and logo will not change.

"We are the New York Islanders," Wang said

This was in the article in Sports Illustrated.

Brooklyn is technically the far western edge of Long Island so, it's actually correct.

As a long-time Islanders fan, I'm just glad the arena issue is resolved. I would have preferred they stay in Nassau County at the Coliseum site, but that clearly was not what the County or Town of Hempstead was interested in doing. No longer do we worry about shipping off a potentially competitive team to Quebec or Kansas City. These are the NEW YORK ISLANDERS still!

Now about this lockout...

Will they play at all this year?

I wonder which team will relocate next?

Cool. But the NHL is killng itself. I was a huge Flyers fan since the mid-1960's when they started. After the strike several years ago I lost all interest. Just started getting passively interested this past year, and now, again. Doubt I'll waste my energy anymore. Focus on a true winter sport--collegiate wrestling!

If they play, it will be prior to the Winter Classic. That game is a key part of the season for the NHL.

I just want to see my Winnipeg Jets relocate out of the SE division and into the Central with the Wild, and Blackhawks. They are no longer Atlanta they need to be out of the Southeast Division. Well if they don't play this year more college kids will stay for their junior or senior years which can help the college teams. Its tough when one of your best players bolt early for the NHL.

When Winnipeg moves, it should be to the Pacific division with the CA teams, Vancouver, etc.

The problem is finding the team to take their spot in the Southeast. Geographically, the only "southern" team left is Nashville, but they are in the Central time zone.

They need to get this lockout figured out. I haven't been this optimistic about the Canes in awhile.

I don't know, but hopefully they'll land in Seattle. New NBA/NHL arena just got final approval.xnodx

The league had proposed realigning the league into 4 conferences (2 of seven teams, and 2 of 8 teams). It actually made the most sense and kept most teams within their respective time zones. Detroit should not be in the Western Conference...but I sure as hell don't want them int he Eastern...

It is only a matter of time...article last week from Yahoo! about relocation/expansion which includes Seattle & a second Toronto club.

There were rumors for a while that Houston wanted a NHL franchise, and given the amount of yankee transplants we have here, it might not be a bad idea.

From what I have read over the years, Houston and KC both want teams. And like it or not, the league for some reason is still talking about expanding to a unit of 32 like the NFL. Relocation is ideal, but if they do expand, I think Houston would make perfect sense.

I'd like it. I mean I enjoy going to watch the Aeros play, but I'd love a chance to watch the Stars come down and play.

I'm the perfect Houston/Galveston transplant: When Dallas teams come to town I'm in my Dallas stuff. People here hate it :D

Yeah...FOX is too busy with their big sports like NASCAR.

You should probably stick to threads about sports that are more in line with your likes...like darts or something.

Isn't it amusing that because lakes hates UND and because UND is known nationally for its hockey team, he pretends to hate the entire sport of hockey?
